I've been told that 10 days is too much for KL? I surely hope its not...boyfriend and I are planning to visit in early April and should be staying at the Regent Hotel (is it any good? worse come to worse we'd like to swim and sunbathe in the hotel perhaps?), what are the things to do and see? We're more the quiet type - are there any good art museums in town?
Any advice or suggestion will be helpful, thanks!!!

Dear all,
Thanks so much for all the info!!! Actually, we'd love to visit Langkawi or Penang but we can't seem to figure out a cheap (and quick) way of getting there...as we have 10 days in Malaysia, it'd be nice to spend 5, 6 days in an island if everyone seems to think that 4 days is enough for KL!! So...whats THE way to get between the islands and KL? any airline flies cheap? Thanksssss againnnnnn!!

2) Lake Garden (Taman Tasik Perdana) - be sure to visit the Kuala Lumpur Bird Park, Butterflies Park, Orchid Garden, The Islamic Museum, The National Mosque and several other tourist spots around that vicinity).

4)Petaling Street and Central Market
5)National Museum
6)Palace of Art at Jalan Tun Razak (known as Istana Budaya by locals)

I don't think you should travel to Langkawi. Last time when I travel there, I was really bored... There isn't like KL, these's quiet... very few ppl u can see walking on the street... But Penang, the 2nd biggest city in Malaysia... Erm.... Not bad. I have been there last year. I love Penang. I stayed in Parkroyal Hotel, it was really great, it's a 5 stars hotel. But the sea seemed like a little more polluted now. Better don't go swimming. I just swam in the swimming pool. :-)

10 days in Kuala Lumpur is too long. I think 3 days are enough since the places to visit are about next to each other. Go for other places as well such as Penang, Langkawi or Sabah (Sabah is quite far actually). This 3 places got plenty of nice beaches...good places for relaxing your mind but lack of entertainment except for the beaches. Anyway, below is the list for places of interest in Kuala Lumpur.
1. KLCC
2. National Museum
3. Bird Park
4. KL Tower
5. Lake Garden
6. Merdeka Square
7. Petaling Street
8. Central Market

Being a vibrant city, there are so much thing you can do in Kuala Lumpur but since you have not reveal your preference or your hobby or interest is quite a difficult task to answer your question but I'll try anyway based on the following aspect:- 1. Shopping - We have variety fof shopping place and I would seggregate it to :- i. High class/ Expensive - This is where you can get branded clothing and accessories. Among the place to go are :- Starhill, Lot 10, Berjaya Time Square in Bukit Bintang. Suria KLCC at the KLCC Petronas Twin Tower 2. Medium budget - So many places like Sungai Wang Plaza n Plaza Bukit Bintang in Bukit Bintang. Pertama Complex, Campbell, Sogo in the Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman areas. 3. Low budget/Unique shopping experience - Definitely topping the list is Petaling Street where you can get lot of good quality imitation or fake goods. For traditional and cultural stuff you should go to the Central Market. For malay and indian stuff you should go to Jalan Majid India. 2. Education - As for places that you can visit to learn more about Malaysia I would reccomend this places in KL :- i. The National Museum ii. The zoo - not really in KL but not too far though.About 15 km from kl. iii. Aquaria - A very interesting place to view all the sea life and it is located next to KLCC. aka Petronas Twin Tower iv. Islamic Museum - Situated near the National Mosque v, Bird Park - Situated near the Islamic Museum what else ha?So many options for you... You can squeeze in a lot of activities if you properly plan it. The best way is to get a local guide or some local to help you. Do contact me if you need help or suggestion.

10? too much...even 5 is more than enough...there's quite a lot of places to go in KL though...like KLCC,KL Tower,Istana Budaya,National Museum,Central Market,Petaling Street (Chinatown),Taman Tasik Titiwangsa (Titiwangsa Lake Park).
maybe you should spend the rest of the days on an island or in the Pahang National Park where it's far more relaxing compared to the city...interesting island to visit during this time would be Langkawi...

You've been told right - 10 days KL is a real drag; 4 or 5 days tops!!
The excellent 5-star Regent is smack right in the heart of the city's main shopping belt facing the JW Mariott - Starhill Gallery.
Aside from shopping and the hundreds of F&B outlets, there's not a whole lot to do except quick visits to the Twin Towers (more shopping and eating); art musem (good? ahem!!); Central Market (covered air-conditioned building housing local handicrafts etc); Chinatown chaos (fake merchandise) possibly the most popular place (Petaling Street) in the city for European backpackers - they love to order Chinese with ice cold bottles of Carlsberg-Tiger.. al fresco dining a la Orient.

yep..10 days in Kuala Lumpur is kinda too long in KL..perhaps 3 nights in KL is just nice to explore the whole city...Regent Hotel..is a five stars hotel and located in the middle of the Golden Triangle and nearby the Fashion street aka the Bintang Walk...to swim and sunbathe at the hotel in not quite recommended as its the better to spend it at beach resort..where its quite and pleasant..why not opt to go to Langkawi Island or Penang Island for a much quieter retreat after few days in KL..

EDIT: Danish Cookie, from Kuala Lumpur to both Langkawi and Penang..you can either choose to go by flight or by bus/coach..personally if you want to have a cheap way with lots of country scenic view..then travelling by bus is the best way..
here's an example for your trip itinerary:
Kuala Lumpur- Kuala Perlis Jetty to Langkawi Island
onboard Transnasional or Plusliner
which depart from PUDURAYA Bus Terminal
Bus Fare @ MYR 35.00/person
Kuala Perlis Jetty (onboard ferry) to Kuah Jetty, Langkawi Island
Ferry fare @ MYR 15.00/person
From Kuah Jetty to your preferred hotel
-Either you rent a car at starting rental rate of MYR120.00 OR get a taxi/cab to take you to the hotel.
After few days in Langkawi, get back to the Kuah Jetty and get yourself onboard another ferry that takes you to Fort Swettenham in Georgetown, Penang.
Ferry fare @ MYR50.00/person
At the Fort Swettenham, get a taxi or make an early booking with your preferred hotel in Penang to send you a LIMOSINE..if you are staying a my preferred Grand Plaza Parkroyal Hotel which located in Batu Feringghi..then the limo will cost you MYR 65.00 or by a cab will cost you MYR25.00
Estimate your travelling expenses around Penang Island ranging of about MYR150-200..after having few days in Penang..if you want to go back to Kuala lumpur..then check out from the Hotel and go to Sungai Nibong Bus Terminal by LIMO @ MYR90.00 or taxi @ MYR50.00. At the bus terminal, get your tickets and onboard the NICE Executive Double Deck Coach which arrival at KTMB Old Railway Building in Kuala L;umpur...if KL is not your destination, then you could go and get flight back to your home at the Bayan Lepas International Airport in Penang...
i hope this will help you in getting out and about around Malaysia!!
any assitance needed..i'm glad to help ya! sent an email to me..
:-D
