I prepare for the worst. It doesn't make life any easier when the worst actually happens, though! It just makes life predictable!

Is being hedonistic a bad thing?
It all depends on the way you handle it and in what way you are pessimistic.
If you allow it to depress you and make you feel like the good isn't worth the bad ever it's bad and can lead to suicide. If you are pessimistic because you have been hurt a lot in life and use it as a way to try and cut your emotions off from pain then it is unhealthy.
But there are those few pessimistic people who are always prepared for the worst when it comes, and use their knowledge of what could go wrong to enjoy even the smallest victories in life.
nothing wrong with that.

This is a very good question actually and many times I've thought about this..!! Now all I can say is to share with you this quotes:
"It is better to be an OPTIMIST and proven Wrong than to be a PESSIMIST and proven Right..."
I've read this quotes somewhere now can't recall exactly where but it has touched me a great deal and whenever I face a challenge to choose between what to be and not to be - between becoming a pessimist or optimist I always hold on to this truth. and there is indeed a big truth in it. as we all know life sometimes can be pretty unfair and when we choose to be pessimist in a painful situation we always just double our sorrows. But when we're optimistic we just reduce our sufferings to half and that's beacuse we still manage to see the light in the darkest possible moments and even if the light is just a thin Ray but the realization of it that there is still a light can be pretty uplifting. And when I say this please do believe me.
Now all I would say is to be a pessimist is to prepare your own defeat. Even if you prove yourself right still you'll be known as a pessimist. But you're optimist, you've nothing to lose. even if you'll be wrong still you're still proven an optimist. so at the end the choice is ofcourse yours - what would you like to be proven !!!
So Best of Luck & make a wise choice :-)

Being prepared for worst and being pessimistic are two different things - i want something in life - its ok even if i dont get it - my life will still go on - this is called preparing for the worst. being pessimistic means not trying to acheive that something feeling u can not acheive it.
now got the difference!!??
and yes! its really bad being pessimistic as it wont take u anywhere in life. moreover it will make ur life and ur near and dear one's life hell!!!
so come on man!!! smile and be optimistic. lets see the doughnut - not the hole - as the doughnut fills ur stomach when u r hungry - not the hole!!!

Yes being a pessimist is a really, really, really bad thing!!!!!
YOUR THOUGHTS CREATE YOUR REALITY.
You attract what you emanate.
You need a major thinking overhaul, my friend. Please read some books by Dr. Wayne Dyer. His books are geared for the general public, and discuss the IMMENSE POWER of THOUGHT. I have studied this subject in grad school for over 2 years. (Vedic philosophy). The books by Dyer are very simplified, but what he says is true on many levels, which he does not get into. I have studied it and it is FASCINATING, maybe the most fascinating thing I have ever studied. I will say it one more time:
YOUR THOUGHTS CREATE YOUR REALITY.
Its true. I do my best to be aware of my thoughts and choose them wisely. It gets easier and easier with practice. Change your thinking!! This is so, so important. You will see your life change...
