Harvard Extension is as good as any other evening school intended for students who cannot attend fulltime day classes. it is a respectable way to get a degree, but it is definitely NOT the same as Harvard College. Harvard College is the undergraduate full-time residential elite college that everyone hears about.
Having a degree from HE would impress me the same as a degree earned part-time at Northeastern, UMass-Boston or any of the other local schools.

Your degree wouldn't be from Harvard University - as in one of the famous, top-ranked, hypercompetitive programs that make employers sit up and take notice. It would very clearly state that it was from the Extension School - and because that's not selective, it doesn't carry nearly as much weight. An online program with at least some degree of selectivity from a different not-for-profit school - especially one that will give you a degree from the exact same school you would attend if you took physical classes there - is probably a better investment.

Matt's answer is accurate as to Boston. I think there is a chance that as you get further away form Boston, fewer people will understand the distinction between the Extension School and the college.
It is easy to enroll in, but it is not as easy to excel there. If you have very good grades, I think the degree will carry more weight than other local schools, especially outside Boston.
