I think it's because his death is what made him so fascinating to people. He was a decent songwriter and guitarist, and I still like some Nirvana, but the man's death was so exploited and overglorified...it was sad and tragic, yes, but it is also what made him the "legend" he was today.
If you ask me, if he was so disinterested in being cool and famous and popular...wouldn't he hate the status he's been given? He even said "I'd rather be dead than cool". That proves how much his fans have mishandled his memory--they've made him SUPER COOL.

I like NIRVANA.
No fascination with Kurt Cobain though.
I was 40 when their first album came out.
I think that is a little too old for fandom.
At least for semi normal person.
been in Seattle since 89

It could be because he's dead. Has been for a long time now. I never cared for him, because I didn't know who the hell he was when he was alive, let alone when he died and even today, I STILL don't give a fart in a high wind about him and after doing some online research, I STILL don't think he's fascinating. In fact, I hate him even more. (Don't ask me why though.)

I don't listen to Nirvana often, but I never really did anyways. I don't know how old you are, but it's likely because you are a bit older now. Nirvana has some great songs, but most of its emotional appeal is to angsty teenagers. If you have moved on from that phase, your tastes too have probably evolved.

HE never interested me. I never even knew who he was until he died. And i find it interesting that most people didn't know who he was until he died and he is such a huge icon because he was a drug addict/musicion. Seems like if your any sort of anything with money and you die with something relating to drugs, suddenly your worth something and people want to talk about you.

I don't care either. He's just a loser who blew his head off. He took the easy way out and didn't deal with reality/addiction/life like a man.

It's not like his life was hard, guy never had to work again in his life.

It was both a waste and a shame.

Don't care, never did. Has anyone told you he's been dead for a while?
