I´m not trying to attack USA, of course there are normal people there but during my visits to this country, I´ve seen a lot of fanatism about things that in fact are not that important, some people in this country have everything but most of them never smile and a lot of people have emotional stuff... I think, and maybe not being right, that even in poor countries people care about themselves, about their real health and happiness.

Possibly because of the excessive television from infancy and corporate controlled media, very bad fast food, a nation of zombies? The absurd melodrama of talk shows that people seek to emulate due to relatively empty lives? I dont know, maybe a combination and more. I have wondered the same thing and this is what Ive come up with - a lot of social isolation and phonyiness is normal here - and as you probably know excessive, excessive identity with commercial images and manufactured ways of viewing the world. Ive been all over the world and am not sure that anything can really be said as "normal people" so Im not sure what that means to you, and there are many many genuine, down to earth people here. Still Im afraid this is the exception...

Hmm. I've known people of both extremes in the US. If your experience was mostly that the people you met were exagerated, I can only offer some guesses.
Some people imitate what they see on TV. Either intentionally or because they are imersed in it every day.
There seems to be an increase in emotional disorders in general, or at least the disorders that have always been there have recieved more attention, so people that would otherwise be ok, trick themselves into believing they have such a disorder and in the end, could even potentially give themselves a disorder.
Lots of Americans take things as personal attacks. As evidenced by most of the responses I read to this question.
Another one is that a lot of Americans don't seem to like to think. For whatever reason, philosophy, or even discussion about things they do not know about, tends to get them angry. I run into this one a lot. I am really frightened by the number of times i hear the seemingly harmless phrase, "Thinking about that makes my brain hurt."
To the people that say Americans aren't like that... Do you mostly hang out with just your own crowd, and only talk about things that you all know lots about?
To the original poster: Do you see people in your country as being open minded? Friendly toward strangers?
There seems to be a tremendous amount of paranoia in the US after 9/11. And even before that as people have lost their innocence about lots of things. Who leaves their door unlocked these days? Who lets their kids talk to strangers?

HOW DARE YOU CALL US EMOTIONAL! OF ALL THE IDIOTIC THINGS I'VE EVER HEARD! Wait! Let me get my breath.... Okay. This is the first time I've heard Americans labeled as the emotional ones. Generally, it's Italians or Israelis. But America is such a melting pot. You are probably basing it on what you see on TV. Don't! We are NOT like our reality shows! At least not most of us. We really are normal. We're more normal than most!

Most Americans, I've met are good people they are kind, nice and unassuming.
It is only the Administration that receives so much bad media attention.
The people are normal as every where else.

Hey Dino,
Do you mean normal or complacent? I think the latter. "Worldwide answers" are meaningless because Americans can speak for ourselves.

You are speaking about yourself?
You seem exaggeraged, as if you can judge a whole group of people. You seem like kind of an ignorant ****** to me.
