Well for that matter, why do you eat, your just going to poop it out? Why bathe, your just going to get dirty again? Stop being so negative, and START LIVING. Do yourself a favor, experience / enjoy it BEFORE you die.

Probably no use. Can i quote a tv show? Please? :-P (Missed a few non-important parts out)
- "It feels like nothing I do means anything."
- "It doesn't. In the greater scheme of things or the big picture, nothing we do matters. There's no grand plan, no big win."
- "You seem kinda chipper about that"
- "I guess I kinda worked it out. If there's no great glorious end to all this, if nothing we do matters, then all that matters is what we do. Because that's all there is. What we do, now, today.
And now all I want to do is help, because I don't think people should suffer like they do, and because if there's no bigger meaning, then the smallest act of kindness, is the greatest thing in the world."
It's kinda sad I know that off by heart, but I heard it years ago and It's always stuck in my mind. Religious people will tell you different, but I'm not strong enough to be religious (I'd rather believe in no god, than a god that lets people suffer like they do, amoung other things.). To me, that statement rings true, and says why we should do the everyday things that you mention.
If we have to die, if it's all going to end someday, then everything we do now is special, because that's all we have. So why waste it? Why not spend it studying and becoming something important, or doing something we enjoy. Because if it's all we've got, then we should enjoy it.

This is the most amazing gift the humanity has, even when we know that we gonna end, we are always trying to get better, even when many things aren't eternal, we keep walking for the better of the ones who are coming. Why we build if may be we won't enjoy it? Because it doesn't matter if I don't see the on coming morning, there's gonna be some body who will. What about the pyramids, the Great Wall of China, the Statue of the Liberty and many other wonders? Many of the people who've started them never saw even the half of them, but now after many years we still talking about them because they left something that made them immortals, that's what I wanna do with my children and grand children, may be I won't build anything as the ones I mentioned, but if I can make one of my grand or grate grandchildren talk about me like "My grate grandfather built this tree house, or like my grat grandfather said to grandpa' " that means that I did it right and they made me immortal. I hope I made my self understood since English isn't my first language.

There is so much to say here I don't know where to start. School and work aren't the only things in life and if you can't see that you need to broaden your horizens.
I'm going to keep this short but relationships - family, friends and lovers, creativity, bonding with nature and with animals, feeling the sun on your skin, the sheer physical pleasures of eating and making love...just taking a shower feels awfully darn good!
To me, being alive isn't about a goal, it's about a process. I go to school and to work and I have goals that I work toward, but I also indulge myself and do things I enjoy every day.
I've been thinking about this a lot lately due to things going on in my family. I don't want to just work hard every day and not enjoy life. If you aren't enjoying your life, then I guess you are right, there is no point.

I'm stunned by this question. I don't know why we live... but I do know that I love living!!! I enjoy every second of it. And I think that makes it easier to know I will eventually die. I once was suicidal in the past. I could not see the good side of living. But now I do. I can't explain it. I just do. And all the things people don't like on this site had to do with it: I took medication, I went through therapy, I attended A.A. meetings, and I found God.!
People are living up to the society's expectations: the society wants us individual, and we want to deal with things ourselves!
We all need help one day or the other and we cannot always help ourselves!
If you don't want to take medication, if you don't want to be religious, if you don't want to go through therapy, and if you don't want to get help...
Then maybe you are not ready. Maybe you haven't had enough yet.

Only some believe that we ultimately die. A lot of people have faith that there is an afterlife beyond our current physical existence and that the few short years we spend here on earth are temporary, while the human spirit endures eternally.
The purpose of life has been debated for millenia, but for a Christian like me, it's clear that the purpose of life now is to glorfy God through my belief in Him and through my actions.
This might be a more spiritual answer than you were looking for, but it's my heartfelt belief.

This is a lenghty reply, but please read it.
good question. I have found the meaning and purpose for living in Jesus Christ. The Bible says that we exist to glorify God. There is no real answer other than the one found in Christ Jesus. Please click on the link I have below for you, and visit the church in there that you find nearest to you. Do not let anyone mock you for choosing to discover truth. Afterall, we will be dead longer than we will be alive, right? so it is important to figure out what truth is.
I wake up every morning and I cant stop laughing. Life is so enjoyable for me, because I am have real peace. The type that can only be found in having a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. He speaks, and I hear Him. He plans my days, and all I have to do it wake up. When I think about how good God has been to me in the past, tears well up in my eyes and all I can say is "thank-you" and sing a song for Him or stand up and worship.
It is so good that you are asking this question. But it is more important to discover the answer. Truth is truth. If one thing is true, then all the others are spurious. Christ is truth, "I am the way, the truth, and the life", he said. All the other things that are said lead you the wrong way.
Please visit one of the churches in the link I provided for you and ask the pastor you find all the questions that are on your heart. The people at the church will greet you well and love you. After all, it was God's love for us that saved us, and it is that genuine love that we want to share with everyone we come across.
Yes, life is short. And one day everyone will give an account before God for everything he has ever said and done. Those who are found in Christ then, are seen before God as pure because his sacrifice on our behalf paid the way for us (that's what Christ meant when he said that he was the way), and will be admitted to God's eternal kingdom.
Please dont listen to anyone who tries to tell you about some evolution theory, because that disprooves itself (thats another story).
Each of us (humans) are borne with the 10 commandmants (God's law-"the ten words of the covenant" stamped on our heart), that is how you are able to tell when you are doing something wrong. That is how you know that there is a right and there is a wrong. Please visit one of the churches in the link so that you might ask more questions to the pastors you find there.
So then, if there is no judgement for those who do wrong, then why did God bother put in on our hearts in the first place.
So there IS a reason for life: To glorify God and live for Him (under Christ) so that we may stand before him pure, and be admitted to eternal life with Him. Or if you choose to reject him (which the bible predicts that many will do), then Heaven will not be your home.
God is the Creator of life. And He also is the Reason for it as well. One you can begin to grasp that...what a journey!
Everyone is subject to this wether they know about it or not. I cared enough to type out this lenghty reply to you, now Please take the next step to discover real life, purpose, and the promises of God for yourself. Click on the link.
Blessings.

If you look at a gravestone, it always says the name of the person who has passed on and the length of time that person was alive (e.g. Dec 1900 - Feb 2007). Make that dash in between your birth and death dates meaningful, e.g. teach someone to fish instead of giving that person fish for life. If you managed to make someone else's life worth living, then only you would have truly lived.
