are the any risk factors in quitting smoking at 18 weeks pregnant? i had quit and then busted, am desperate to get off the addiction trail for good, and have extinguished the last smoke. i am using allen carr's " the easy way" to stop. any one used this before? is there any chance of m/c due to quitting? please no posts on the benefits, or dangers of smoking i already know them, thus the quitting.

I dont know the method you are talking about BUT...
I was told that quitting smoking during pregnancy can increase your blood pressure.
BUT any day, is a good day to quit.

I went cold turkey when I found out I was preg with our daughter at 5 weeks preg and she is almost 1 and I havent had a smoke since.

Good on you!

There is nothing in my clinic books on any bad thing at all in quiting smoking. You maybe thinking of DTS from stopping alcohol or something simular in smoking and there are no risk.
With withdrawls of nicotine there is nothing that will go to the baby. Infact it states the toxins filters within 3 days to help blood flow. So that is good news.

I am happy for you. I am trying right now as I write this using Tar Bar. Hope Allen Carrs works for you. Do you have a site on information about it?

No there are no risk factors in quitting smoking...the sooner the better if your pregnant...No I wouldnt preach the dangers of smoking because we all know the dangers..I am a smoker too but would never smoke thru pregnancy. I was too afraid I may harm the baby and I quit as soon as I found out I was pregnant...I never used anything, just went cold turkey......It is very hard to do and I wish you luck! Good Luck!

I don't understand. You dont' misscarry from quitting... but smoking itself does increase the risk of miscarriage. Quitting is best for baby. Smoking is sucking poison into your body and giving it to the baby. I quit when i was pregnant and that made my chance of miscarriage go down. The say the baby can go through withdrawl if you quit suddenly.. but that is still better then not quiting. You can do it. With my first I quit cold turkey but started again. With this one I quit within a month. I am not starting again

I also used Alan Carr's method several years ago and found it very effective. There are no risks to quitting smoking during pregnancy. Your risk of miscarriage will decrease. You have said you don't want benefits so I won't list them.

well different doctors will say different things. when i carried my first kid the doc told me not to quit cold turkey. since the baby was use to it just smoke less and less until you dont smoke any more then i had a different doctor with my second kid and he said quit right then and there and for my last one i smoke the whole time but not alot since i was always sick with her.maybe 2 a if that. i did quit with the second one cold turkey which was the best way for me. there is always risk factors one way or the other. you do what is best for you!

Good for you. You are giving your baby a much healthier start by quiting. Remember, the lungs are one of the last organs to mature in your baby. Keep it up and give your newborn a healthy start. It will reduce SIDS as well!!
