6x + 4(3x – 2) = 6x + 2

Get rid of parentheses by multiplying 4 by each element inside.

6x + 12x -8 = 6x +2

Combine terms

18x -8 = 6x + 2

Subtract 6x from each side

12 x - 8 = 2

Add 8 to each side

12x = 10

Divide each side by 12 and reduce

x = 10/12 or 5/6

Check your work:

6 (5/6) + 4 (15/6 -12/6) = 6 (5/6) + 2

5 + 4 (3/6 or 1/2) = 5 + 2

5 + 4(1/2) = 5 + 2

5 + 2 = 5 + 2

7 = 7

So your answer works.

You can solve a little easier from the beginning by dropping the 6x from each side, since they don't affect the equation. It works either way.

6x + 4(3x – 2) = 6x + 2 distribute 4
6x+12x-8=6x+2 subtract 6x from each side
12x-8=2 add 8 to each side
12x=10 divide both sides by 12
x=10/12=5/6

6x + 4(3x - 2) = 6x + 2
4(3x - 2)= 2 [shift the 6x to the left and cancel them]
12x - 8 = 2
12x = 10
x = 10/12
x = 5/6

Sure!

6x + 4(3x-2) = 6x + 2
Multiplication Property of Equality:
6x + 12x - 8 = 6x + 2
18x - 8 = 6x + 2
Addition Property of Equality:
18x - 6x = 8 + 2
12x = 10
Multiplication Property of Equality:
x = 10 / 12
x = 5 / 6

6x + 4(3x-2) = 6x + 2
6x + 12x - 8 = 6x +2
6x + 12x - 6x = 2 + 8
12x = 10
x = 10/12 = 5/6

Yet another one. How do you expect to LEARN how to do it if you have other people figure it out for you?
