Now for starters get you facts right

FACT

In 1970 the COPO dropped the displacement rule, and that was when the bigger engines came out. The first change was that the 396 engine was bored out to 402 in³ , but the car kept the 396 badging, as so much advertising had been put into the 396 namesake that they didn't want to change it. Most notable was the 454 in³ LS5 V8 rated at 360 hp (low compression)and the LS6 at 450 hp(high compression). It was the 454 that made the Chevelle a legend. The LS6, with 450 hp and 500 ft·lbf of torque, would rocket the Chevelle through the 1/4 mile in low to mid-13 second times at 105 to 108 mph. 1972 would be the last of the great Chevelle SS models with the top engine rated at 270 net hp (201 kW) conforming with GM's decree that all engines were to be rated at their net engine ratings. Despite the lower rating there was no evidence that power had actually changed on production cars of that year. After 1972, the engine ratings declined quickly.

Now this is quicker

In 1967 Shelby had finished 31 427 competition cars. These were strictly race spec cars that were tuned to have somewhere between 400 and 500 horsepower. Unfortunately, the 31 examples was not enough to homologate the car for production endurance racing. Shelby's only choice was to throw windscreens on the unsold cars and sell one of the most radical road-going machines. In 1967 the 427 S/C was the fastest accelerating production vehicles.

Depends on what class... If you mean has working doors many outlaw class cars run in the 6,s at 225 in the 1/4.... 8.26 is fast...most cars the run faster then 10 sec cant really run on the street...Did the Chevelle use nitrous or supercharger...yes!!

Why does it matter what model or year it is? Doesn't the builder and technology enter into the equation or money spent? How about the weather, track conditions, tires, car weight, driver ability? Yes its cool! But remember at that point of performance- it is just a body on a tube frame. All else being equal, couldn't a Mustang,Monte Carlo, Cutlass...etc do the same thing?

There are a number of cars that are "Street Legal" that are by no means streetable. Have seen cars in a "street car" class go high 7's in the 1/4. None of them are streetable, but are street legal. 8.20's are impressive for a street car!!
