3x – 7 = 2x + 8
subtract 2x from both sides
3x – 7-2x = 2x + 8-2x
3x-2x-7=2x-2x+8
x-7=8
add 7 to both sides
x-7+7=8+7
x=15

The goal here is to get all off the x's on one side of the = sign

3x - 7 = 2x + 8

add 7 to both sides

3x = 2x +15

subtract 2x from both sides

x = 15

Good luck!
