Most of the world's electronic devices are produced by companies based out of either the US or Japan (Japan has a higher density of electronic devices, but the US outclasses them in terms of sheer volume due to having a much larger total population). However, most consumer electronics are probably manufactured in China (especially now that "China" includes Hong Kong), followed by other developing Asian nations like Korea and Taiwan, or developing Latin American nations. My iPod, Nintendo DS, two SanDisk SD Plus cards, and Gateway laptop were all manufactured in China (though I expect certain components like the AMD processor probably originated in either the US or Japan). My Nokia cel phone was made in Mexico. My Kingston SD card and Panasonic digital camera, on the other hand, were indeed made in Japan. And my CompactFlash Bluetooth adapter was made right here in the US. So it seems that oddball specialty items (like the Bluetooth adapter) or precision devices (like the optics in a digital camera) tend to get made more locally, and only after they have reached the point where they can be handed off to less skilled laborers do they send production to Mexico, and from there on to China.
