If you were REALLY depressed you prob wouldnt be thinking of taking the guitar lessons. it can take numerous tries to find a good therapist that you can benefit from. I suggest 1. perhaps finding a free support group ( as another activity) women's center, clinic, church, you know where to look in your community. 2 many meds for depression keep feel good endorphins in the body longer- a natural way to increase these is getting some good exercise. My dr recommended this when i was mildly down too before meds. it helped. of course if you are feeling suicidal or anything, see a dr asap.
3. take the guitar lessons. create and express and learn. GL

Exercise really helps. I've been on anti-depressants for about a year and when I feel like the pressure is getting too bad I do some exercise and that weight weighing down on my chest seems to lift itself off. Therapy is free if you just find a friend that will listen to your problems and concerns in life.

Without more information no one can guess. Do you play the gutar already? Do you enjoy performing music at least for yourself? Would the lessons help you find more activities with friends?
There are multiple forms of depression.
Is your depression worse at certain times of the year? What is the weather like where you live and do you like it? Are you more depressed because of the weather?
As you can see there are many things to consider when answering your question and I have not scratched the surface.

maybe you should look into a clinic that allows you to pay for your therapy on a sliding scale depending on how much money you make. that way y ou might pay considerably less for your therapy. some places will let you pay like 15 dollars a session. then you might have cash for your guitar lessons, too!

Therapy. Guitar lessons will only allow you an excuse not to deal with the reason or reasons you are depressed.

Forget the guitar lessons. Do you have a guitar? If not rent one. Have you tried shopping for a rolex. Do you know that Rolex means keep on working ?

When I feel down, I clean the bath rooms and cabinets.

Go to your doctor and get him to put you on anti-depressant medication if you are that seriously ill. It's the least expensive and most sure-fire way to deal with the problem.

Start journaling, and go to a priest or pastor for counseling, both are free. Then do something for somebody else, maybe give the money to charity, or to a friend that needs it.
