sorry to say it, but I don't think Beckham really that big a star to turn around United States for loving soccer. I believe there will be some hype but that it. Its just cool off. Beside how can soccer replace football.

Maybe a little bit initially until the impact of such a big player wears off. But they hardly air any of the games on TV and there aren't enough teams in the league for everyone to be able to go to a game to see him. So with a lack of support outside of LA I think it is undoubtedly going to do nothing at all for football in the U.S.

Also that fact that his talents aren't in the technicality of his footwork, but in his accurate crosses and strikes on a dead ball I don't think will appeal to many. People want to see a "superstar" be a defence's worst nightmare. All of this added to him being a bit past his footballing prime, I'd be surprised to see if he continued to start two or three years into his five-year contract.

americans prefer the sports they invented/refined in the united states over the last 150 years to anything that is popular worldwide...always have and always will, that being said he will make it more popular in the LA area, but probably no where else...besides his best years on field are behind him and signing him for that huge contract is a publicity stunt...

No. Girls, Mexicans, Central and South Americans, and Europeans already like soccer. To get the U.S. into soccer he needs to turn the white and black males from football, basketball, baseball, and hockey away. i don't think that crowd will care about him.

Probably not - Americans have more focus on baseball, football, even hockey more so than soccer and I don't think God himself can make that sport popular.

He's just a pretty face. Not much in the brains department. Doesn't really do much for me. Doesn't make me want to rush out to my nearest soccer field. Sorry babe.
