I have regular harlequins in my main tank along with a couple types of tetras and guppy's out the rear end :)
Anyway in answer to your question I think it all depends on the fish. With my Tetras in the main tank I have neons and glo-lights. They seem to school with each other. But when the glo-lights were in my "tetra tank" with my bloodfin tetras they would stay far away from them.
As for my Rasbora... they like to hang out with each other. They leave the tetras alone. Anyway a small school of 5 is just fine. If you have a fairly large tank I would go for a school of 10.
How big is the tank the fish are going into? A school of 5 goldens and maybe 5 neon or glo-light tetras would be pretty good. You can always get 2 or 3 ghost shrimp for clean-up duty. They are bottom feeding scavengers and pretty cute.

As long as the fish are the same species they will most likely school together. But all fish have their own likes and dislikes. I have a male guppy who likes to "school" with my neons. Silly little thing. One of the many joys of fish keeping.
If you want a colorful tank get the neons and the rasbora.

Have fun picking your fish. Just a word of advice...stay away from blood-fin tetras for a community tank. They are semi-aggressive and like to chase eachother and other fish. They freaked the daylights out of my glo-lights before I got the idea to add them to my big tank. Blood-fin tetras are silver with red at the base of their fins.

Since I have not been to aquarium shop for a long time I have been missing out whats new,and the golden harlequins seem to be a new strain. Some mutations of fish appear to be more docile and I would say that the golden harlequin rasboras could be the same. In that case I think it will be all right to mix them with other small rasboras.

Yor tank is too small for that many fish . Sorry but it's true. As for your harlequins they do school in groups of 6 or more as long as they are the same. they need a tank of 20 gal. minimun

as long as they are harlequin rasboras they are the same fish and will school. tetras would school separately. other rasboras would school separately too. its fine to have a couple schools of fish in one aquarium -- i kind of like smaller schools than one big school.

The raspboras gets alongside including your cichlids for in line with hazard around 2 days. After that, they are going to be killed and/or eaten. comparable including your danios whilst your cichlids get extra beneficial.
