since some of your travel would be non commute when you reach hwy 101-south, thru Morgan Hill, onto the road that cuts over to Monterey- You might have to leave 4:10am or earlier,, there is a little traffic on Hwy 1 toward Monterey /Carmel,as the road narrows to 2 lanes and traffic tend to get heavy with people going to work or school..Did you try map quest or yahoo map, to get an idea of driving distance and time to get there..(since you know your start and finish addresses)?

Give yourself a good 4 hours, if not more for padding. You'll be hitting insane traffic in the city at that hour of the morning. I watch the traffic reports every morning starting at 5 a.m. and it's already slow. Even in Napa Valley the traffic is nuts at 6:15 a.m. with people trying to get out of town to commute to the city. Then there are always accidents everyday on the freeways.
Give yourself a LOT of time, and if you arrive early, I'm sure breakfast somewhere will be available and you'll be on time.

Have you considered leaving the night before, and staying over night in a motel? That might be easier than getting up n the middle of the night to get where you're going. Traffic can be pretty bad during rush hour.
