I have been afraid to go to a dentist since I was five. I am now 66, and will not go to a dentist without someone going with me to hold my hand while receiving dental treatment. In fact, I have a dental appointment in a couple of weeks, and my 86-year old mother is going with me. She will be standing by the dentist and his assistant--holding my hand!
