As an accounting major, you need a strong basis in business as a whole, because accounting is the language of business.

Here are the Business week rankings of undergraduate programs as a whole:

As an accounting graduate from Texas, I'm only familiar with our schools, but I'm partial to University of Texas, Texas A&M and Baylor, as I know my employer recruits these 3 schools the most and I have worked with graduates from all 3 schools. They all have very good programs and all generally have top 25 CPA passing rates in the nation (Texas and Baylor traditionally have top 5, I don't know A&M's history on the exam.)

The Public Accounting Report is a survey of professors on what they perceive to be the best programs. The rankings are on page 7.

I'm sure you'll get many responses as to which universities are best, but the truth is that (as long as they're sure the college exists) most employers don't care what college you went to. Do you know what they call medical students with a D- average?

Doctors.
