Yes and No. My parents never spanked me as a child and I turned out great. They disciplined me in a nonphysical way and I learn how to respect them as a result. They did, however, spank my sister. She was very different from me and she needed the extra discipline. She was more difficult and had some issues with respect, but she also turned out great. Every child is different and so is every parent. I don't think it should be illegal because the government has no right to tell people how to raise their kids. I would never spank my children because I believe that there are more appropriate actions, but some people think spanking kids is the only way. I think it is great that you have decided not to smack your child, good luck!

it is a very touchy subject to most parents and anyone eles.i personally beleive that it is up to the parents disgreation to as weather or not they would like to smack there kid or not. i think that it should be allowed to a certain extent not to the point where you belt your kid but just a small smack now and then really does get your kid in line.most people don't like when others smack there kids it is a free country at the moment and you can raise your kids the way you wish to weather it be right or wrong.

When you say smacked, I assume you are saying 'spanked'. The answer is yes.
However, every child is different. There were 8 of us. Some responded to talk and some to spanking. A spanking is 1-3 whaps on the butt.
We were never injured -those who needed to be spanked. Spanking should not hurt physically, it hurts the conscience. If one cannot hurt a child's feelings or conscience, there is a sociopath in the makings.
When my friends were raising kids, everyone avoided those who wouldn't spank. I felt sorry for the kid too. Out of control and no one stepping in to help.

Hey, all you supposed "good Christians" out there. Take a look at this if you have the GUTS.
Christians for Nonviolent Parenting
http://nospank.net/cnpindex.htm
Anyone who welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me. But anyone who is an obstacle to bring down one of these little ones, who has faith in me would be better drowned in the depths of the sea with a great millstone round his neck. Matt. 18:5-7
I bet you DON'T have the GUTS to challenge this "belief" that was pounded into you by your parents, who got it from their parents, who got it from their parents, who got it......
How do you think a virus spreads????
...
...
Now, ask yourself. Would Jesus spank a child?
<<>>>
Addendum:
For all you 'Spare the Rod...' people. You ever think about this:
Found on the Web...
To mankind He is “The Good Shepherd” (John 10:11) and we are His sheep. A good shepherd uses a rod or a staff to guide or to protect the sheep in his care. Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. (Psalms 23) He would never beat his sheep because they would become frightened, scattered and lost.
Maybe 'Spare the rod, and spoil the child.' has a completely different meaning than you were led to believe:
It is BETTER to "Spare the rod, and spoil the child." than to suffer pain on the child.
How would you know it wasn't supposed to be like that. YOU DON'T. NO ONE DOES!!!!
And yes, I am a parent. I NEVER struck them, for ANY reason, and they are OK.

No it might no longer be unlawful. How else might our society flow directly to discipline little spoiled little brats who like to throw tantrums in shops or in public for no reason (whilst their no longer getting their way). Sorry additionally there's a distinction with beating and spanking. Spanking is on the youngster's rear end (once or twice). I grew up with spanks and it replaced into worse lower back then. youngsters in recent times get away with homicide whilst in comparison with the recent regulation at present. i'm no longer condoning this habit yet I do have faith in option techniques of youngster rearing and that consists of time-outs, removing own property and spanks. And yeah becoming up i think of it helped make me the guy i'm immediately. I seen the version with many diverse acquaintances and families that grew up with and with out it. all of us got here out favourite. I did observe nonetheless those that did no longer have it they have been the tantrum throwing, interest in seek of toddlers who have been given what they wanted from their mothers and dads. i do no longer see no great courting with the mothers and dads and newborn. With people who have been given spanked their relationships are extra effectual extra reliable and tight.

smacking in the face is wrong but as a mother of 2 and step mother to 2 more i can honestly say children that have "time out" punishment are usually so bad no one wants to be around them vs. kids that know mama will spank their bottom have a tendency to be better behaved children and people don't cringe when they see you coming with your child

I think a smack will teach them that for every wrong doing there is a punishment and it only gets worse. If we stopped doing this time-out crap we would have more respectful children. Look at the young adults from the time-out era. Most don't care about how others are treated and they act real stupid when they get busted for something illegal " What did I do?"

The thing that you have to remember is that there is a difference between discipline and abuse. I was hit as a child and I am a better person for it. I got out of line a lot and my parents made sure I got back in. A child should never be beaten for no reason but a child should be disciplined

Beating your child is wrong but you do have to discipline the kid or he/she will turn out spoiled and rotten! Nose against the wall is a good non harrassing punishment! You tell them to place their nose on the wall and stand their and think about what they have done. The time spent depends on the crime! But hey it worked with me and my five brothers and sisters and we turned out great!
