8. Pluto's off the map. Here's why:
From its discovery by Clyde Tombaugh in 1930, Pluto was considered the Solar System's ninth planet. In the late 20th and early 21st century, many similar objects were discovered in the outer solar system, most notably the trans-Neptunian object Eris which is slightly larger than Pluto. On August 24, 2006 the IAU defined the term "planet" for the first time. This definition excluded Pluto, which was then reclassified under the new category of dwarf planet along with Eris and Ceres.[1] Pluto is also classified as the prototype of a family of trans-Neptunian objects.[2][3] After the reclassification, Pluto was added to the list of minor planets and given the number 134340.[4][5]

I think 134340 sounds better than the name "Pluto" don't you think?

In year 2007, pluto is de-limited from rank of planet to dwarf planet. So presently there are 8 named planets. There is one planet beyond pluto which hasn't given name. Now scientists are thinking about planet's definition. After they confirm the newly found planet satisfying definition of the planet, they will give the newly found planet a name. Then ask the same question in Yahoo answers and you will get the right answer...

there are only 8 planets in our solar system, pluto has just been taken off the list as a planet

according to new research there r only 8 planets in our solar system that is pluto that was first considered to be a planet is now removed from the list coz it does not satisfy the conditions of a planet...now it is considered as just a moving body....take care ...bye

scientisthave discovered that pluto is not a planet,because it is
touching the orbit of neptune.planet means it should not the orbit of other planet.setna is not planet. it is a dwarf.so,now only 8 planets are there.

total 8 planets.leave pluto from the list of planets.in year 2006 there were 3 more planets discovered in our solarsystem.

ya pluto lost its status but 2 more planets have been added
so now the total is 10
