Amazon.com has a thing where if you type in "Da Vince Code" and look at the page for that book, there's a section that says, people who bought this book also bought...'these books'. It's sort of a way to recommend books. Of course if you actually order books off Amazon they will make personalized recommendations for you. Very handy.

I see that your other answerers have gone with amazon. I tend not to like their suggestions as they throw anything at you that they think you might buy.
Try Fanstastic Fiction (I'll put the URL in the source area). Look up your favorite author and scroll all the way to the bottom. There you'll see a list of 15 other authors that visitors to your favorite author's page also visited.
For example, I looked up Neil Gaiman and got these results:
Terry Pratchett, David Gemmell, Terry Goodkind, Laurell K. Hamilton, Stephen King, George RR Martin, Diana Gabaldon, Clive Barker, James Patterson, Simon R Green, Dean Koontz, Robin Hobb, Orson Scott Card, Raymond E Feist and Garth Nix.
And before you get all the way to the bottom, sometimes there is a list of books that your favorite author recommends (though sometimes these are suspect as many of them come from the same publishing company... as if they might be "encouraged" to recommend them).
And in the end, if you wish to purchase the book, this site has links to amazon.

Amazon is good for that. Also, why not ask here? If you give some examples of your favorite books (or movies), maybe someone that shares your taste can suggest other books you might like.

Amazon is probably the closest thing to this that I can think of. Perhaps because they are so dominate nobody else has come up with a site specifically designed for this purpose alone.
