I do a lot of public speaking presentations. On the subject of historical places I would give the presentation as if the building(s) was a person(s). Talk about the 'birth of the building' its parents (builders/architect/designers) and how the building has stood the test of time (by looking after itself maintenence etc. If more than one building is involved (especially if in the same area) I would talk about them as a family

This gives interest to your topic but more importantly the audience will remember your topic and facts that you have given

good luck

THE most important thing is that you DO NO READ DIRECTLY FROM A PAPER. Memorize your speach. I can't tell you how many times I have been put to sleep from someone just reading... I can read... If the teacher wanted to read then he or she would have asked for a paper and not a speech. Remember that this is something that you are going to write so it's not important that you present it word for word. Learn about your topic, learn most of your speach, and just get up there and talk.

Do you have access to Power Point? Photos and clip art really help. Jokes are good, but don't try to be a comedian. Make it a safe joke, and one that is no stretch. Just keep it light.
Be enthused about your subject.
Insert anecdotes whenever possible, stories about people in that area, or travelers' stories. (good & bad)
Know your subject well, and you will have more confidence speaking. It will show, and make you a better speaker.
Limit your subject matter to one or two places. Don't try to cover the whole world, it is too big a topic.
Good luck!!
