They had a bit hit in the 90s in the UK and stateside with a track called "Unbelievable". I think they are funded by single sales, and also when movies/adverts use their songs they get royalties.

As an economist for the IMF, I am always surprised at how little people know about the IMF and yet are willing to blast it for all of the world's ills.

1. The IMF is part of the United Nations. Like the UN, countries join the IMF, agree to its rules, and pay dues. So, the IMF is funded through membership dues and interest it earns on loans to member countries.

2. When countries get in trouble, they can apply for financial assistance from the IMF. Countries only come to the IMF when they have no other choice -- when no other lender is willing to take the risk.

3. IMF loans come with severe conditions. For example, the IMF might say that government spending has to be cut, if the IMF thinks that government spending is the problem for the crisis.

4. IMF lending comes in stages. If the country does not deliver on its promises -- to cut government spending, for example -- the IMF can cut off further lending. In practice, however, the IMF often rewrites the loan. Hence, the IMF is often criticized for not practicing "tough love".

5. The IMF also provides technical assistance and provides an annual evaluation of the country's policies -- whether or not they have a loan. Even the US must undergo an annual evaluation.

Here's a quick answer: The IMF (International Monetary Fund) is an international organization that oversees the global financial system by observing exchange rates and balance of payments, as well as offering financial and technical assistance when requested.
It claims to foster global monetary cooperation, secure financial stability, facilitate international trade, promote high employment and sustainable economic growth and reduce poverty. So how come there is still poverty in the world? It's reasons for existence in 1945 was part of history (World War II) to restore the order of international monetary relations of leading allied countries. So the IMF was created for the sake wealth of those allied countries (and not the rest of the world).
The IMF is not funded... they charge subscriptions. For each country that wants to be a member of the IMF (so they can lend money), the IMF reviews and makes sure that a country would fulfill all requirements. They need to review them because it wouldn't make sense to have a member who can't profit the organization... right?
The IMF charges high interests and other political demands when any country (even the poorest) needs to borrow money. Its basically a loan shark.

The IMF is a supra-national governmental organisation that keep rich countries rich and imposes sanctions as it lends to poorer ones - thereby perpetuating a global third world debt through the use of 'austere' measures - oh and generally has done little good when & where it goes. Check out its partner on crime - the World Bank - makes the mafia look schoolchildren

The IMF was created to further ruin the economies and livelihoods of poorer nations. And therefore the health of the inhabitants.
In essence it helps to support the richer countries in time of need and screws the poorer countries when THEY need it most.
