A week ago my boyfriend spilt red wine on my feature wall. It is a gold wall. And he got alot of area. Up, down, and on the mouldings. His opinion is," a little daub will do it". He thinks he can just paint everywhere the wine went, with the same color and I tried this theory of his. It didn't cover it up and even though I used the same color it looked darker and muddy. And what do I do about the shiny cream mouldings...stained in red wine? I feel the whole wall needs to be primed and repainted. He got alot of area with the wine and it looks terrible. Unfortunately, it is a very long wall and covers down the staircase. There's no way to stop in the middle. It might be costly(well actually was when painted a year ago) and I am ready to get estimates. What would you do? Also, this it not his first or second time spilling red wine and he hates white wine and he does not want to use a sippy cup/dripless. So, no wine in my home unless you do use a sippy cup and pay for the damage

First I'd kick your b/f in the butt and tell him to take his libations outside if he's going to get lush and be a putz! LOL Honestly with a red wine stain I'd say the only option you have is to prime with Kilz and repaint. Don't despair though! Walmart sells something called the Paintstick and it's AWESOME. All you do is suck the paint into the Paintstick and hop too! It saves SOOOO much time. When we repainted the living room by hand it took HOURS. With the Paintstick we did the whole bedroom in less than 45 minutes! All we needed to do by hand was the trim work and that wasn't too bad because we already had stuff taped off.

If you don't want to do the work yourself then yeah, it's definitely going to cost you to do a large wall. Perhaps your b/f should help pay for the damages? Maybe that will teach him to be more responsible when he drinks!

Painting just a few spots isn't usually successful. If you have the exact same paint that was used on the wall, and the paint hasn't been there too long, the colour will probably match. But if the paint has been there for a while, the colour will have changed with exposure to light, cooking fumes, smoke, etc. Patches then will show up. It's probably possible to match the paint as it is on the wall, but very difficult. You need to go and get some paint chips and bring them home to compare to the wall, and even if your paint is white, every manufacturer sells more than 20 shades of "white", and you also have to match the sheen. If these are scuffs and not dents or chips, try a microfibre cloth or a Mr Clean Magic Eraser. Scuffs might just scrub off.

Try Grease Lighting cleaner it might help get rid of the wine stains without repainting.

I agree with you. He needs to pay for getitng it reprimed, and repainted, and no more red wine in your house for that man. In fact, that wall need to be kept away from with all beverages and food. So you won't have to go thru this again with anyone. Take care.
