I am pessimistic with myself and optimistic for others. It affects me because I have a low self-esteem and constantly go out of my way for others. I always seem to take care of myself last.

I wasn't born a 'happy, jump out of bed to greet the day' sort of person. But I'm moody (bi-polar) & periods of optimism/pessimismvaries so its difficult to say. I think I've been mostly optimistic & realistic until I would have reason to become pessimistic.
However, I became a very negative person as I aged as a result of a working environment which did nothing but deteriorate year after year, but I didn't see it at the time. I stayed in a job I hated & I was miserable & wanted everyone to know it. I'm sure I had a terrible impact on the moral of those who worked with me & can't imagine why my supervisors let me get away with it. I used to be a fun & popular person; someone invited to parties & get- togethers. Now I am 61, am single & have 2 close friends & 2 cats. I am trying to come to terms with my life.
Most days I am optismistic. I am quieter & keep most negative thoughts to myself. A sister told me that I am nicer than I used to be.

I am optimist to a fault. I cannot stand being around this one lady who lives in my building. She never has a kind thing to say or a bright thought. I've just got to get away from her after a while. She always is seeing the negative &I always see the positive. One time we both went to the same pot luck dinner and we were asked "How was the dinner?" At the exact same time I said"It wasLovely, very nice.",and she said "Alwful, terriable just terriable." The lady asking the question looked at her then me and giggled, I promiced we were at the same dinner.LOL

I see myself as a "pragmatic optimist". (I am cheerful most days, but I don't delude myself with the fantasy that the world is perfect.)
