Colic is an extremely common condition in babies, but the exact cause is unknown.

Possible causes of colic include:

Poor digestion - some research suggests that babies get cramps as milk is passed through their immature digestive system. Colic usually disappears before weaning onto solid food begins.

Lactose intolerance - some babies may be sensitive to lactose, a sugar found in breast milk, cow’s milk and most formula milk.

Cow’s milk - studies suggest that some babies may be sensitive to cow’s milk proteins. Although babies under twelve months should not be given cow's milk, most formula milk is based on cow's milk and so contains cow’s milk proteins. Mums who breast feed and who include dairy products in their diet will also pass cow’s milk proteins to their baby through their breast milk.

Wind - babies may swallow tiny air bubbles as they feed or cry, which can cause pain in the intestines. Some parents worry that they are responsible for their baby crying a lot, but all babies cry as a way of communicating that they need something.

Colic is an intestinal issue.. has nothing to do with cold air. HOWEVER, when babies go out in the cold air and wind hits them in the face, they will typically gasp a bit, and gulp more air than normal. That gulping can cause more gas than normal, and can definitely make a colicky baby more uncomfortable. It's always a good idea to cover a baby's face when outside, until they get used to handling wind in their face and stop gulping at the sensation.

No, Colic is caused by air and gases trapped in the baby's stomach.

Gas is what air in general can do to a baby summer or winter. Though I never heard it can cause colic. You may have a fussy baby cuz his tummy hurts... try mylecon, tummy time, and pumping his legs.

Colic is gas. Cold air does not make gas bubbles.

Maybe she is trying to make a joke out of her situation, out of embarrassment. Sometimes people make jokes to cover their embarrassment. I would not have laughed either because it isn't funny or mature to point out that she had a baby before marriage. Even in this day and age women should have enough self respect to have a baby AFTER they get married. Because many men won't marry a woman just because she is having their baby. Too often I see girls and women who get pregnant and have a baby and the BF just leads them on, making them THINK they will get married when they never will.

NO they can't. Cold air can help soothe a colicky baby though. I'm mom to 3 and aunt to 12 and have used the cool air to soothe them.
