my mom says they are, but i wanna know the truth. i think she is just saying that so i won't get colored contacts

There are many shades of dark eyes such as golden brown, brown, dark brown and black. Black eyes are common among certain races such as Blacks, Asians...certain middle eastern groups...etc.
So I wouldn't say they are "rare"...they are pretty common.
In fact most people that have black eyes say they have brown eyes...which is wrong. It's kinda like saying someone with gray eyes has blue eyes.
My husband has black eyes...really, really dark...I love their shade though...they make his eyes look really deep and sexy.
If you want to get contacts, go for it and have fun! Just don't expect them to look natural! My friend has brown eyes and she gets green and hazel contacts all the time. it looks really cool on her, but they don't look "natural". It's just for fun!

nobody has really black eyes, only very very dark brown. My dad has practically black eyes though lol. I think they are pretty rare, and it will be very difficut to see the color of the contact over your dark eyes. I wouldnt recomend getting colored contacts, they usually look odd.

They're an illusion,they're actually *very* dark brown,it is an unusual trait mostly seen in those of Asian decent.So it depends,if you're Asian then no it's not *that* rare,if you're from anywhere else then yes it's quite an unusual trait.
Brown eyes are the most common colour but the very dark "black" appearence is not often seen.

welllll....u kno the drill by now dont u? "there's no such thing as black eyes...its really really really dark brown!" yeah RIGHT. lol girl i kno exactly where ur coming from (a friend of mine has really black....or hella dark brown wutevr...eyes), and i have to say, yes they are pretty rare, so i would say....FLAUNT them girl!!!! and i would say you are one of the lucky ones because black goes with anything!! you've heard it a million times, but seriously!! if you had a rainbow of eyeshadow colors or eyeliners, the lucky ducks with black eyes would be the ones that could pull off EVERY SINGLE COLOR!!! and WELL!! lol so be happy! dont worry! and all those hunky dorry things eh? xoxo, caitlyn

yes black eyes are rare. some people confuse really dark brown for black. but im sure you'll look pretty with colored contacts. i had grey one's before.

I have never seen anyone with black eyes and I work for eye doctors. I wouldn't get colored contacts, they always look fake and kind of creapy. Especially on people with darker shin. Stick with your black eyes, it sounds cool.

Well, brown eyes are the dominant color of eyes.
Sometimes brown eyes look black.
Though I have seen a lot of people with black eyes...
Kinda freaky... lol.

I use to think so. My mom told me they were't and had me look in mirror under some light. My eyes are really really really dark brown.
