India can only become economic power. US would never allow india to become superpower. India can be a subsidiary super power under the patronage of US.

When do you think this will happen, five years, ten years, twenty, superpower of what exactly?, so what they have a few nukes BIG DEAL!!!, the country is still a third world nation with third world living standards to boot, every one is getting over excited about these sweat shop nations emerging into the tecnoloigcal world, just because they are supplying the world with cheap and nasty goods and cheap labor, all of a sudden they are the next superpower, their economies rely heavily on western buying power and are inept to say the least and are many many years away from being a serious threat in military terms or otherwise, they spend most of their time bartering down the price of the cheapest and usually worst quality of any goods which they seem to like the best.

India currently battles terrorism in its own country, and it has often come to the USA for help establishing/restructuring its government against these terrorist threats + attacks...
In the upcomming war I invision against Iran, Russia, China, Syria, Somalia, Lebanon, France, Venezuala, etc...
It would be a wonderful thing to have India be a superpower...
its northern border is all deadly mountains... it would put China surrounded by superpower India and superpower Japan...
and it would be strategically game-changing if India was a superpower...
however, its not. It doesnt have the military capabilities countries like Russia, China, USA, England, and Japan have.
Therefore, it cant and it is not a superpower.
Although, i wish it was....

I'm active duty US military, and I have absolutely no problem with more countries gaining power, as long as they gain self-control along with it (and being friends with us doesn't hurt either).
This is why no one trusts North Korea or Iran with nuclear technology; They've been known to misuse military power in the past.
For the most part, India has been responsible with its military, and as of recent, has seriously been looking to make peace with Pakistan (and vice-versa) with the recent violence that has occured from independent militants trying to spark conflict between the two countries.
So to sum up my answer, I think it is a great thing that India is gaining power. We could use more powerful friends in Asia and the Middle East, and India covers both areas.

Emerging is the key word.
India has a tremendous amount of talent, and very hard working people. It also has a lack of infrastructure and deep poverty.
China is better positioned than India, in my opinion, and I wonder how the two will contend for hegemonic status as the United States weakens itself with profligate spending.
