Dear It is of course very disgusting that in a country where 80%population belongs to agriculture activities and no tv channel is devoting any time to it. Becuase agriculture linked people are poor and cannot afford the huge charges tv channels are asking for advertisements.

TV channels are commercial channel. Hence, if only agri based programmes are shown, nobody will be interested. Moreover, Farmers are there in the field and they feel that they know better. So even farmers will not encourage such a channel. DD channel covers a lot in agri field.
Even you take the education channel. Most of the people are not interested in the channel. leave along a separate channel for education, most of the people do not see the education programme/UGC programmes shown in the DD.
People want TV for entertainment rather than educative. In entertainment also people are interested in seeing other people suffer. In jovial programmes survive because of hurting some people.
It is a good idea to start a channel for agri but you will suffer loss only because of non entertainment by people

Vishal,
your idea is good BUT is NOT possible in day-to-day life.

It takes lakhs and crores of money to run a TV channel, other than that employee's salary and so many things are there. All these factors pushes the TV company to go for advertisement.

The number of companies who will advertise on these channels will be minimal as a result no revenue and eventually we will have to close the station.

The best thing to do will be:
a 1 hour program on all channels sponsored by Govt of India, which will not only focus on agricultural occupation or tips on agricultural land. But, will also focus on debates, discussion etc;

Consider a debate program - farmers on one side / industrialists like Narayana murthy, TATA's who care more about SEZ than farmer's life / and politicians on one side.

These programs will help people to understand the problems of our dear farmers.

The TV channels being run by commercial people find out the best viewed subjects among the rural and urban people... Unfortunately even the rural people - whether viewing own or community TV - are mad after film movies and patronise mega serials and other entertainment items rather than see educational, health and other useful programmes - mostly telecast by Doordarshan...

It is no use finding faults on any sector any more... In spite of higher average education level in the villages, people have not matured adequately to do what is best for their own interests.. the ruralites are owfully after politicians making false promises unhesitatingly over and over again, or led by caste leaders who divert their attention by various tactics to issues that serve their vested interests rather than the public good... People do not see through their games and are satisfied with a gift of good will (?)from their dubious masters - even a peg of cheap local arrack is enough for them..

I have seen young widows in many villages (those who lost their young hubbies given to heavy drinking) who were willing to acquire some skills, join SHGs and earn some thing for their family.. they do not get involved in politics, caste outfits etc. They are the main hopes for the poor in villages.. Even in rural side the affluent women are like urbanites - viewing commercial programmes more..

The interests of the farmers are not served properly even by most agrl organisations which depend on or get affiliated to some party and play doubtful roles... not necessarily for the overall good of their community... The position is just not bright at present...

IF they could be motivated to fight for their interests that would be the most powerful group in the country... but that is not yet to be...
