Contacts & background information -- plain and simple. Just in case he was KILLED, he gave it to her (remember) when the Big Boss O' The Irish was STILL ALIVE. He wanted his money, and his identity - and that person was the only one (he thought) could help him, before he was duped by the Younger Guy (don't want to give away too much) and took a little time HIMSELF (DeCaprio did) before the lawyer got the box to him, if the recordings.

It was probably something he typed up explaining his involvement with the local mob, the identity of the mob informant, etc.. I thought the girlfriend was going to hand it over to the head of the task force. Wonder whose baby it is....
Wahlberg was probably a "good" guy. He could also have been a plant by the FBI or the Italian mob, doing a "cleaning job" to protect the FBI or something. It was hard to tell since everybody seemed to be living double-lives.

Great question! I don't know the answer...While we're at it, what was in the box Jack Nicholson gave Leonardo after he graduated from the academy? That was a great movie. I don't think Marky was a bad guy, I just think he accurately played an overzealous Boston cop...Stinkin' Boston...
