Hello everyone. I've been looking for a job for about 8 months now. I graduated from college last year with a bachelors in business. I also have 10 years experience in customer service, 3 years in management, and 2 years in sales.

The job market here in Metro Detroit isn't very good and I'm getting discouraged. Somtimes it's hard to keep positive with bills piling up and being home all day. I would like to go see a therapist but of course I don't have any insurance because I have no job.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to keep positive and not get depressed when you've been looking for a job for almost a year?

Have you looked on the internet for jobs outside of Detroit area? How far would you be willing to move? Or at least commute? Please call the places you owe money to on your bills, and while you are explaining to them that you have been trying to find a job for the past 8 months, ask them if their company is hiring anyone? Customer service is very important. I have been told that it takes 8 hr. a day, 5 days a week to find a job. Have you tried 3 contacts per day? You are probably running out of places to look. That is why I asked how far are you willing to commute, or are you willing to move? I wish you the best. Take care.

Take a job, any job, just to get out of the house and focused. Have you considered becoming a security guard until you find the real job you want? Don't laugh, but I think with your degree you may even get a very good job as a security supervisor, as the private security field is always busy and desperate for good people. Start there and at least you will have some income and be on the road to somewhere.

Honestly, I started making money on line inbetween my job searches. It kept my spirits up and the money I made really helped out. Things must be really tough in Detroit with the automobile manufacturers laying off so many people.

If this interests you--I have found several legitimate work at home sites so far, and I made $500+ in October, over $700 in November, $900+ in December, and $700+ in January. They are free to join.

And by the way--never join a work at home program that wants you to pay up front. If they were making that much money, they wouldn't need to charge you.

Do some volunteer work in your area. I know you probably really need a paid job right now, but until one comes up, it will give you something to do and get you movitated back into the "working mode".

This will sound silly, but every day smile.
Even if it is for no reason. If you can't smile, force yourself. I promise, your mood will improve. It always works with me.
Always remember, things will always pick up and there's always someone else worse off than you.
Good luck!
