I would agree. The one who doesn't need to take advice is the one who needs it the most.
I would say that in a lot of cases the ones who give good advice are the ones who have either been there and dealt with a similar situation or they are the ones who have needed it before and didn't receive it but know now and try to offer it.
Just be careful of the "know it all's"
The ones who have never walked a mile in any one direction, on there own or for any reason other than to follow another must not be the ones to direct you as to which direction you should place your foot let alone tell you how to walk the road ahead of you.

What an interesting question you have there. I must say, i do see a correlation between people who give good advice and them requiring it the most. As a matter of fact, that was one of the major themes in the T.V. series Taxi. I can only assume that these people are so overwhelmed with their own problems, that the time they put into thinking about problems makes them a good candidate for solving other peoples problems.

Have you been experiencing someone giving you unasked for advice? If so, is the person giving the advice experiencing chaos in his/her own life? I feel defensive and frustrated when other people tell me what to do or give me unsolicited advice.

Often a codependent person will give advice to the whole world and try to help everyone else while neglecting herself. This is really quite common.

As a recovering codependent, I avoid giving advice unless asked to share. When I do share, I avoid telling that person what to do. I merely listen to them, reflect back what they are feeling, point out the facts that they have given me, add a little logic, show possible outcomes and the direction they seem to be headed toward, refrain from judgment and let them make their own decision according to their own values. Sometimes I will state what I would do or have done in similar situations.

Kind regards

Whenever I give advice, I am also giving it to myself and I receive it with gratitude. Often I really need to hear the words I am giving to another.

Not at all. Most people who give good advice have been through a situation and have most likely learned from it. Now if you are giving advice that is unsolicited, that is a different story and you need to be advised to butt out

Not really, I think that those who give great advise are just wiser than most.

Yes in some cases. These people tend to know their stuff but do not follow their own advice. I actually tend to do allot more for others than myself. I think The ones who do that need to help others but realize they need to spend time on fixing themselves.

Not necessarily. Sometimes we 'oldsters' have lived alot more life than some and have been through similar tough times. We may just be offering advice which you can use or throw out! I have and so have lots of oldsters been there and done that.

Bill Cosby said: it's not the wise that need advice but the dumb ones... so... why not help a dumb person get smarter?
