I don't know about 'bowls' but the University of Rhode Island has a famous program in growing lawns. It is part of the agriculture dept and they have a lot of experimental grass. The students major in lawn grass. I know that sounds silly, but it is a serious program and they all get good jobs working for big golf resorts and other properties that have extensive lawns to care for. URI is a respectable school and you can get a good education there.
