I recently joined this Q&A bit and I'm not really understanding what the points, thumbs up/down, and voting is all about. How do you give someone a thumbs up/down? What do you do with the points? You know....the run down! Anyone care to help?

It's actually pretty pointless, like a game. But the idea is that you get points to gain levels, and with each level you can do more. You have to be level 2 to give people thumbs up and thumbs down. You get 2 points for answering a question, and if your answer is chosen best answer, you get 10 points. You also get one additional point for each thumbs up given to your answer. Voting for answers on undecided questions gets you one point. Asking a question costs 5 points, but you get back 4 (I think) for choosing a best answer.
Like I said, fairly pointless, but weirdly addictive. There are a number of nasty trolls though - be careful of them. And feel free to report them - that's the little flag icon. click on it and follow the directions if you stumble across anyone being deliberately offensive or racist or harassing you.

You have to be at level 2 to vote thumbs up or down. when you vote thumbs up or down your saying there answer/question is good or bad. the little flag is to report abuse. whenever you ask a question you loose five points and when ever you answer you get 2 points. when your at the home page, where all the questions are there will be 'answer', discover and vote, when you go to vote and you vote on the best answer you get 2 points also

Get to level 2 first, then you can thumbs up or down someone's reply.

just try to get alotta points and generaly find some stuff out that you never new before and in a couple of hours you coem to mmy question and pick best answer and it wilgive me ten points for helping you but you can oooooonly choose one hah im trying to make it to level 3 bu i dont have much time you cant really use your points only to ask wuestion and you find out alotta stuff on this ite i like its fun
