Boys and girls in utero can assume a lot of different positions that cover up the genitals, even up to 32 weeks...I would never recommend assuming one way or another...red, purple, yellow, and white look great on both genders, and certain names can be used for both...good luck!

I had an ultrasound at 21 1/2 weeks and was told I was having a girl. My doctor had been a specialist for many years. He even went as far as to print a picture circling the labia for my husband and I. Later I had some complications around 24 weeks and had another ultrasound "confirming" that it was a girl. We started buying girl clothes because my first one was a boy. Again at 27 weeks I had to have another ultrasound and this time is was most definitely not a girl. Perhaps the following information may help you.
In order to be certain, the person performing the ultrasound should reassure herself that she actually sees the penis and scrotum in the case of a boy and the labia in the case of a girl. The absence of the penis must not be taken as sufficient evidence of the fetus being a girl. Most of the time one should be able to tell the sex of the baby by about 20 weeks and very often even at sixteen. On the other hand, as the correct visualization of any fetal part depends of a host of factors such as fetal position, amount of liquor and thickness of the abdominal wall, it may not be able to be certain about the sex even at 28 weeks.

I was told at the 21 week ultrasound that I was having a girl. That is what my husband, I, and my enitre family wanted. I went back at 26 weeks and a different nurse along with the last nurse that checked stated that it was a boy. I hated that it wasn't right from the beginning. I was so looking forward to doing all of the girly things with my daughter and I told everyone that I was having a girl, but not anymore. I'm still happy though. I just want a healthy child.

NOPE!!!
Don't assume that. By visible all they mean is they can't get a good look. This happened to my girlfriend and she ended up having a boy. Tell your doc they couldn't tell and you really need to know, for nursery, plan ahead (money is tight) whatever. They are really good about giving you another look or two. :))

They have to be positioned just right to see all their glory. Did they tell you what they saw? You might just have to wait.
I was told one of my twins would be a boy, well I had twin girls.
Suggest another ultrasound, or buy all neutral clothes and wait until your baby enters the world.
Congrats and good luck!

THE TESTICALS DESCEND AROUND WEEK 18 WITH LITTLE BOYS, SO IF YOU DIDNT SEE ANYTHING I THINK YOU SHOULD START BUYING PINK AND PURPLE. THE TECHS ARE PRETTY GOOD AT LETTING YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR HAVING. GOOD LUCK TO YOU.
