I have to ask- why are people esp BoSox and A's fans always trashing the Yankees? So our team is awesome and we've won 26 championships I guess other fans are just jealous. I'm just sick of everyone screaming our payroll is so big. We're NUMBER FOUR on the payroll list this year BEHIND the redsox! So all you Yankee fans out there what's your top reason for why the Yankees are and ALWAYS will be the best team out there? And even when we were number one on the payroll list if you've get the $$ why not spend it?

Yes I was misinformed regarding the Yankee payroll but like I said if you got the $$ why not spend it? If you Yankee haters had any money would you 'share' it with other people and keep it in a shoebox under your bed-I sure hope not. Second, for all those who say "WE DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR TEAM" then why oh why "secular progression" did you take the time to write a detailed five point list detailing why you don't like us Yankee fans and our awsome yes "awsome" team? If you had TWENTY-SIX championships you would brag too. And no I am not a fake fan I know plenty about baseball and could give you more facts then what you so kindly numbered. Thanks for all the great answers from those of you who are Yankee fans.

They hate the Yankees for a lot of reasons. First, not many teams have the history that the Yankees do, and it drives fans of other teams crazy. The Yankees have 26 championships and many great players, including Babe Ruth, who hit 659 of his 714 homers as a Yank.

Second, people hate the Yankees because they are the richest team in baseball and are worth a reported one billion according to Forbes magazine. The Yankees DO have a lot of money. What are they supposed to do with it? Not spend it? Give it away? No, they can do just what they want with it, and that's spend it on their team to try to win. I get so sick of these IDIOTS who say the Yankees are trying to buy a championship. What's wrong with that? Aren't teams supposed to put everything they have into winning? To all the idiotic fans of other teams who are big on revenue sharing, would you like it if YOUR team had to share with other teams? Would you like it if the money you spent on hats, shirts, and other merchandise went to the Marlins, Reds, Royals, Devil Rays, A's, Twins, etc? I would say no, you wouldn't. The Yankees DO pay tens of millions in revenue sharing and luxury tax every year, which does go to other teams, but you never hear anything about that.

Whine all you want, Yankee haters. Your team sucks and the Yankees will continue to be the center of the baseball world. You all can watch the Yanks get younger again, and get back on top where they belong! GO YANKS!!!

1) I live in Chicago. I could care less about New York. I bet the guys in St. Louis could care less about the Yankees either. It is not jealousy, it is geography. Chicagoans love the Cubs or Sox. WE DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR TEAM.
2) Win a World Series again then ask your question. Every team has tradition. Your team is not "awsome". We don't scream about your payroll, we laugh at how much your team spends, and how it has not gotten you a championship in quite a few years now.
3) You are not #4, you are #1 in spending. You were #4 in OFFSEASON spending, but your team payroll is still #1, well ahead of Boston. So get that right.
4) You are not and ALWAYS the best team. Proof -
2006 - St. Louis
2005 - Chicago White Sox
2004 - Boston Red Sox
2003 - Florida Marlins
2002 - Anaheim Angels
2001 - Arizona Diamondbacks
5) Fans like you are why we hate the Yankees. We are not jealous, we just don't want you bragging about your "26" championships when the question is "what have you done for me lately". That, and I bet other than saying "yankees rulez", you could not tell me much about baseball. Fake fans indeed.

Well first off, the Yankees aren't always the best team. The Cardinals were last year. And the Yankees aren't 4th in payroll. When you make points make sure they are factual. And its not the Yankees that everyone hates (though some do) its the fact the team spends so much that it takes out equality. Look at football. Everyone abides by the same salary cap. You need good management to sign the correct players, draft the right guys, and coach them to the best of their abilities. Everyone has an equal shot going into the season and though a team might dominate for awhile its because they drafted the right players - patriots drafted brady, colts drafted manning, san diego traded for LT for michael vick. Now, look at the Yankees. How many players did the Yankees bring up that are starters? Jeter? Pettite (who is washed up)? Cano? Thats about it. Compare that to every other team. When you have a team that can buy the best players from every team how fair does that make it? Say Steinbrenner dies and his successor doesn't want to spend any money and you see the Sox turn up their spending you will feel the same way about the Sox as everyone feels about you. And though this is the case I really blame it on MLB for not drawing lines. Implementing the softest cap possible isn't the solution. This is the reason football will always be more dominant then baseball.

They always trash the New York Yankees for alot of reasons like the payroll that you have already addressed.

Another reason is because everyone seems to think the the yankees steal their good players but that is B.S because ALL of the yankees star players came from the farm system. Exept Alex Rodriguez but what people do not know is that alex was the one who put himself in a situation where he could get traded. The yankees took advantage of that just like anyother team was trying to when he put himself in the market. If alex would of gone to the redsox for the same amount of money no one would be talking but since it is the yankees people want to talk and usually those people do not know about baseball. so they need to keep their mouth shut.

Another reason they trash the yankees is because they say they are greedy cuz they won 26 championships. to me that is just another excuse for those people to trash the yankees.

Going back to the money issue if any yankee hater would look at their team and picture that team winning so many championships and sell out in all of their games and having all this money. do they seriously think that, that team would just stop winning and using their hard earned money to give another team a chance to catch up. if another person tells me that the yankees are greedy, to rich, overrated, and ect. i will tell them to go look up on the internet how we got all this money and how we got all these great players and then have them come back and give me a lagitimate reason for the yankees not taking advantage of their situation.

Lets just look at facts. All the money the Yankees spent in the last few years have just gotten them out the playoffs quicker. Thats all. They need to scale back on spending, so its good they're 4th in payroll. But you know that wont last for long. "The Boss" wants to be first in everything. I expect another embarrassing playoff exit, accompanied by A-Rod disappearing in the playoffs. Maybe Joe Torre will bat him 9th this year in the playoffs.

The yankees have been the best for years, that's a given.
They're the most hated team because they baught all the major stars (even Babe Ruth was a sock before he signed with the yanks)
and also, they were the most disappointing team for the past two years.

by the way, i'm a yankees fan

I liked the Yanks back in the days of Mantle, Berra, Moose Skowren, Elston Howard, Roger Maris, Bobby Richardson, Cletus Boyer, Whitey Ford, Jim Bouton, Casey Stengel, Ralph Houk, and guys like that. Now, they are over-paid, cry-babies. Case in point: On ESPN today Jeter and A-Rod were speaking about why "they aren't best friends anymore." Big Deal!! Another thing is George Steinbrenner is a big baby, too. Always belly aching about Joe Torre's management skills.

I respect good baseball & attend as many MLB games in my hometown. But, I don't like the secondary, small stuff about what goes on in the locker room or away from the ballpark. I don't care. I have one thing to say about ALL these overpaid players, including the Yanks: PLAY BALL!! That's all that matters to me.

First of all, I don't know where you got the idea of the Yankees having any less than the highest payroll in baseball. That is ridiculous: http://www.hardballdollars.com
Next up, a good reason for the Yankees' success is that they tend to outspend other teams throughout all their years: http://www.bizofbaseball.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=168&Itemid=41

Of course with previous teams, the success was built on (mostly) likable players like Lou Gehrig. Nowadays the Yankees are a motley crew of jigsaw pieces that require a coach who can handle egos. Sure, all good players, but no one like Sheffield, Damon and Mussina both left rival teams that loved them for more money, Derek Jeter goes through celebrity dates faster than E! can follow, not to mention A-Rod should be the Yankee SS since he is the better fielder, A-Rod is overpaid (good player nonetheless and his contract is not the Yankees' fault), Giambi has all that steroid flak following him around, and Abreu has been referred to as not a being a team player.
Now the Yankees are stepping on their own players. If the Yankees insisted on letting Jeter remain at SS over A-Rod, why should giving Bernie Williams a major league contract remain such a big deal to them? From a win-oriented point of view I can understand the desire to cut ties with Williams. That was something they didn't seem to care about when landing A-Rod.
The Yankees have made some better moves of recent though. Bringing in Cano, Cabrera, and Wang have helped their image as they breed a new corps of (possibly) lifelong Yanks. Trading Sheffield and Johnson for prospects also was a move in the right direction. The possible removal of Pavano and rise of Philip Hughes could also aid a revival. It tends to convey the image that the Yankees have realized buying random parts is no the way to create a winning team. You have to mix and match, check out what Joe Girardi managed to do with a $16 million payroll.
I'm a Met fan and I don't like the Yankees. I didn't enjoy them winning WS's constantly or beating my team all those years ago, but I do realize they were a more likable team then than they are now.
Additionally, the luxury threshold was designed to curb rampant spending and make the season more competitive. The Yankees spat in the face of that and have overspent year after year, forcing some other teams to go over just to be able to compete themselves. If the Yankees want to be liked they should consider cutting their payroll somewhat (and they have very slightly). Of course the Yankees don't care what everyone else thinks and they and their fans seem to thrive on everyone's hatred of them.
It's going to be tougher against Boston and Toronto next year, good luck.

THE ANSWER IS PLAIN & SIMPLE JEALOUSY. THE YANKEES HAVE ALWAYS HAD A TRDITION OF EXELLENCE. SOME TIMES THERE WERE LEAN YEARS LIKE THE LATE '60S & EARLY 70'S OR THE 80S TO THE EARLY 90S. BUT THEY HAVE THE MOST MONEY & WILLINGNESS TO SPEND. THE A'S ARE A TEAM THAT TRIES TO BE COMPETATIVE. WHILE THE RED SOX ARE A BUNCH OF 14 CARAT PHONIES. ALSO SOME TEAMS ARE POORLY RUN SO THEIR FANS WHINE ABOUT A SALARY CAP.

Because they are jealous. They only wish their favorite team was as successful as our Yankees. Instead of hating the Yankees they should be pissed off at their teams for not committing themselves to winning as the Yankees do. It's not a matter of money, every franchise has money. It's just a willingness to go out there and get the job done. The Yankees do it and other team don't. It's that simple. The Yankees are in great shape and will win their 27th world series this year.
