Thank you for your comments before. I would now like to ask you would express your views knowingly if it would offend someone.

IN THIS INSTANCE I AM ASKING ABOUT POLITICAL CORRECTNESS vs. POLITENESS.

If there was jno societal constrictions i.e. political correctness, would you say what you really thought or would you hide your true feelings, not out of PC but out of fear of offending the individual.

If the question needs clarifying please do ask.

Many thanks.

Most of the time P.C. is politeness. Most people will hide their true feelings in public. That is what is so distressing about the internet. So many people feel anonymous and just spout vicious crap while hiding behind their computers. The real danger to Society is that people are carrying this anti-social behavior over into their everyday lives.
As for myself, I try to be polite even when I am telling someone on Yahoo that they are full of hot air. I try to make reasoned statements to counter their ridiculous baloney. I am more likely to take issue with something said on the computer than I am in person.

I do not worry about offending others. I do believe you should be somewhat tactful in what you say however. You cannot have dialog if your opponent will not listen to what you have to say. We all have things to say that others will not like, agree with, or even support. If we cannot say what we really mean then no true dialog can ever exist.

Such as I can get many people mad and offended by my views alone, I do not need to be insulting on top of them. However I confess sometime I do throw in some insults from time to time because it is also true that some of what we say is intended to hurt others. In which case politeness is out the window.

I write a weekly New Letter and I would not just be ugly to offend anyone, but I pretty well tell it like I see it in my commentary. There is a point that I won't cross, but that point is because it offends me. I have written many articles about the illegals come over the boarder. I will tell you that I am married to a foreign national and so is one of my sons. I married a woman from Germany and my son a wonderful lady from Mexico, but when I write I tell it like it is not to please either of them but what I think is right,.... My daughter in law doesn't always agree with me, we have decided to agree to disagree and I love her and respect her.

Edit note; My news letter is sent out to about 100 e-mail addresses. The readership is about 250 folks, all of them know that they can write a rebuttle to anything that I have wrtten and if they would like to write a commentary I will be delighted to include it in the news letter as either Letters to the Editor or as the Featured Commentary.

I try to be political correct but my husband says I am very out spoken. Sometimes I say what I think instead of what society wants me to think. On Internet, I am more likely to say what I think no matter what is politically correct. Offending people is removed from the equation. Example - women wanting special treatment but to be treated as equals - you must chose one.
When as a woman say it, it offends the politically correct nature of people.

The blogbaba always says yes when he means yes and no when he means no. Truth respects no boundary or person, it is the ultimate definition of ethical integrity. If you have to lie to be polite, shut up and remain silent. Most of the time I insult those who fear the truth because they don't deserve the blogbaba's respect anyway. If yahoo answers censors the blogbaba, it's their loss.

in my opinion, it is always important to think about how the other individual will react, mostly out of a respect for the other person, but it's not necessarily a politically correct type of issue. You can have your own opinion, but being politically orrect shouldn't be the main motivation, but just the sheer respect for the other person, of who they are andd their opions and where their opinions stem from.

Never! Why worry and get yourself all frustrated for fear that you may p i s s in someones cornflakes? You'll only negatively affect your self. We need to appreciate peoples honesty rather than suppress it for fear that someone may get their feelings hurt.

If a person bothers you let them know, how can a person change without the knowledge that his/hers actions are bothersome.

I don't pay attention to the Pc BS. BUt its just good manners not to be hurtfull for no reason to someone. I'm sure many of my opinions offend people but i usually keep them to myself instead of pointlessly offending someone

It depends on the issue. Sometimes people deserve tobe offended, in which case, I have no qualms about offending him/her. I don't generally follow PC.

lix,
It depends. If you're talking to a friend, say what you think. At other times it might be wise to keep the opinion to yourself. We should respect individual rights, but it just depends on the situation. Do whatever is positive.
