No, Mazda is a Japanese Motor Company. The Mazdas sent to America have been built in Japan, but not entirely, So your question is partially right. Cars like Toyota and Mazda are originated and mostly built in Japan, but have been known to be assembled in parts of America. Basically, the Mazda Corporation expanded the size to America causing production in the states. The engine and other performance parts are more likely to be shipped from Japan, but other parts such as the body and construction are made in America. Mazda is a Japanese Auto Company, no doubt about it. Then again, your question can be about the assembly and making of Mazdas in America so your answer can be true.

Mazda is owned by Ford. Originated in Japan, but the models sold in North America are made in Mexico and Canada.
The only true American Made car is the Panoz line made near Atlanta, Georgia. All hand made and cost a small fortune. But handle like a dream.

Depends on how you perceive it.
Mazda is 33% owned by Ford. Which by Japanese industry laws means it's controlled by Ford.
Most vehicles are built in Japan, but the Mazda6 is built in a joint venture plant AutoAlliance along with the Ford Mustang.
The Mazda3, Mazda5 is built upon a platform C1, that underpins the International Focus (not the American one), the Volvo S40, and a few other vehicles.
The Mazda6 platform spun off CD3 which Ford uses for the american Fusion (not to be confused with the international Fusion), Mercury Milan, Lincoln MKZ, For Edge, Lincoln MKX.
Ford left Mazda to design and focus on 4 cylinder engine engineering which most of their engines were designed by and used throughtout the world. Specially the award-winning 2.3L Direct Injection Turbo I-4, found on the CX-7 and Mazdaspeed6. While Ford allows them to use their V6 engines such as the 3.0L Duratec V6, and new awardwinning 3.5L DOHC V6 that just debuted in the CX-9.
