The state with some of the worst health issues in the US? That's our current tax. Third lowest in US but we can't get it increased? Help!

Yes SGT, I want it to be more in line with what other states are paying. Why in the world should it be so low.....we also have 7% tax on groceries....one of the highest in the US That one should be lower.

I don't smoke Fast Eddie but I'd like to see those that do put a little more in the kitty to help pay for their failing health.

Why not move to another state where you can feel better about the tax regime? You're really in the worst place in the country if you want your taxes raised - I suggest you try one of the following states if you'd like to pay more: CA, MA, NY, NJ, CT, VT, or ME. They would be very happy to accomodate you.

In Montana we raised the cigarette tax to 1.00 a pack and so many people went to rolling their own that after 2 years the state is actually losing money. They say they will eventually start realizing a profit.

You must be a socialist - the idea of robbing us for our own good is familiar here in Britain - they do that all the time ... cigarettes ok ... then it is higher petrol taxes and then road charging and so it goes on until you have the highest taxes in the developed world on everything and you strangle the economy.

if the tax is to be used for future health care of smokers, it should be many times that.

That would be fine, if only we could void their health insurance claims for any lung, stomach, mouth cancers for life. That would save everyone a lot of money.

From what I understand, it's $2.00 here in Michigan and going up to $2.05 here soon, according to the news tonight
