first of all, i know people who are 24 and still growing, the AVERAGE group of people stop growing at 18, that doesn't mean you! and second of all, you dance because you love it! i'm horrible at ballet, but that doesn't mean i'll stop! i do it because i love it, and because i love it , i get better at it! dancing is to express yourself, and to feel the emotions of the songs, and to act, if you don't feel anything anymore than you have to finish and stop. if you want to teach then screw them! you'll find a way to teach, if you love to do it! I have many ballet teachers that made a living off of dancing, but now their injured, even so, they did it because they loved it, and you should too. and nonsense about not being able to learn ballet when your older, get private lessons with a professional and after a few months - you'll have improved (if you do it for more than once a week) but anyway, back to topic, if you really love it, you'll make it work.

So are you 13, 20 or 30? Anyway, that's beyond the point. People dance because they enjoy it. Not everything you enjoy has to become your way of making money. Time spent on learning to dance is not a wasted time. It's the time that you invested in your own development as a person. If you are taking ballet I hope you are not planning to drop out of school. So you *will* have some other way if ballet doesn't happen to become your profession.

Maria, in your first question you said you're 30+, in your second question you said you're 13, and now you say you're 20. No 20 year old needs to ask their parents to take ballet. But I do sympathize if you're a child who desperately wants to dance and your parents won't let you.
Do you know that you don't have to take exams in order to dance professionally? You just have to dance better than the hundreds of other dancers who are auditioning for the position.
The reason why people dance (meaning take dance classes) even if they don't plan on dancing professionally is because it's fun. It's the same reason why people play golf or tennis or go ice skating or horseback riding. It's also why people write private poems in notebooks, or knit sweaters, or sing in their church choir. Life can't just be about working for money, or what's the point of living if you're not doing something you enjoy?
If you are a child who is trying to get your parents to let you take ballet classes, how about you tell them that research has shown that participation in the arts is correlated with higher grades in school and that colleges like to see well-rounded applicants? Would they also be against you taking piano lessons? Tell your parents that Albert Einstein studied the violin!

You're 20 years old! Dance! Who cares what your family thinks? You pay your own bills, right? Take a beg. ballet class. Even if you can't dance for a living, nothing feels so good as dancing. I took dance when I was young and then had to stop. I'm 28 years old and now take clases when I can. I won't ever dance professionally but love to dance. The feeling is amazing. do it for yourself. Most schools offer begining classes for adults. I strongly encourage you to do what makes you happy. You only live once.

I am currnetly studing dance at university, i am also 20yrs. i have no idea what i want to do in life whether i want to dance, teacher or anyhting. i started ballet when i was about 14yrs. I gave me confidence like i never had before, i gained friends, posture which is important through everything in life and i learnt that when i go out i can dance like no one is watching im not a gr8 dancer but i dance how i want, i have studied many different types and struggle with them all, ill never be a profeesional dancer im bow-legged, hypermobile but not in the right directions!.
i haven't grown in hieght since i was in yr7 at school which is about 12yrs old but my body has matured and grown in other ways. Since leaving home to study at uni i had to leave the dance group i had been with for many yrs and i am struggle to find a group where i live for adults but that is not for beginners and its hard but now after having not danced ballet for a while now its affecting most things in my life again. I am struggleing with me contempoary at uni and my posture has gone off and so am suffering with back pain more severly - i have suffered for as long as i can rember and ballet relieved some of it.
If your family do not want you dancing because you will not take up a career in it tell them about all the other wonderful things ballet can do for you. and if not go anyway!!! you wil not regret it!!

i believe that some dance for fun, some do dance so that they can teach it when they get older and because they want to share what they love with others. I dance because it is how I like to express my self....it brought me to meet many great people....and it has become my passion. I do want to teach dance but even if I didn't I would still take part in some form or dance class or troupe or musical. I think if you still liek to dance and it brings any happiness to you you should continue to dance, despite of what your family says. I am very sorry to hear that your family isn't support of you.

I dance because I feel happy whenever I dance. If it is your passion to dance and your heart tells you to go and take up ballet lessons, then go!

I am not a dancer.
I can say with 100% surety that human body cannot grow beyond 18 years. It is a false statement.
As far as your studies are concerned, I can suggest you a site, every every thing is made easy.

I dance to get feelings out, or just to have a good time. I don't have very complex moves, but you feel better after you dance. It makes you feel like you just exercized intensely, and you're just so happy after!
