I found a Nagel framed poster print (i think its a poster print) that says Nagel. The Playboy Portfolios. And really like it. Is it a print? It looks like its printed on paper. How do you tell the difference between a lithograph and a serigraph? Which ones are NORMALLY worth more? I want to collect these!
Thanks!

Yes, they each have a distinct look. With Patrick Nagel, I think you will be dealing with what is known as an offset lithograph, easily distinguished by the 4-color screened dots at the following angles- yellow at 90 degrees, black at 45, magenta at 75, and cyan at 105; these angles were chosen to minimize an effect known as a moire. These are posters, machine-printed, and generally aren't worth collecting. A genuine lithograph is printed by hand from a drawing done in wax on a slab of Bavarian limestone (litho- means stone). They will look like a drawing done in crayon. A serigraph (silkscreen) looks different from both of the above, in that the colors were mixed by the artist instead of the screen dots that you will see in the offset lithographs. The ink should be thick enough to feel. Both a genuine lithograph and a serigraph are considered prints; an offset lithograph is considered a reproduction, because they are produced from a photograph of another work, usually a painting.

Lithograph is printed either on stone or metal plates, Serigraphs are silks screen printings. I prefer the latter.
