If God is all knowing, then why did he mess with the garden of eden in the first place? Because he knew that the serpent would tempt Eve (why didn't he stop the serpent?), and that she would eat the fruit, and give some to Adam, but God had to ask Adam and Eve about what they did. Same with the flood. He knew what would happen, and why, and since he is all powerful he could have prevented it. So why did he do all of that pointless stuff in the first place?

If the stories aren't supposed to be taken literally then why are they the word of God? God doesn't want to make sense? I know many Bible stories, and have similar complaints with most of them, but these are just the most well known. And I know God planned the Flood. But why did he plan it when he already knew that he was going to hve to do it? Couldn't he just skip everything and start it right this time? And if God is just a way to bring people closer, but all that stuff isn't true, why do we even bother with it, when we could share a religion free of the horrors described in the Bible?

Do you, by any chance, know the story of the flood? God supposedly sent it himself. It wasn't an accident. And God was supposed to let Adam and Eve have free will, and he let them be tempted. They gave in to temptation. God asked Adam and Eve what they did to see if they'd lie. Blah, blah, blah, they were kicked out of Eden.

(And, no, I'm not some Christian Bible thumper or something. I've just had to study the Bible a bit for Humanities.)

There is a thing god gave us, it is call free will. You have the ability to belive, or not belive. He will not deny you any choice, or at least your ability to make the choice. If you want to kill your self, fine, you go to hell. If go did not give us the ability to think and choose on our own, then there would be no point in our exsistence. We would be pupets. That is not what god wanted. He is not a director of the stage, he is the audience, and the cridic. He does have the script, but he will not change the script, he will mearly watch the show. Because what is more fun, watching a play, or reading it?

To SARAH: So what is IS? would you advise a little child or an ExraTerretrial that it is fine not to understand God!! How do you live in harmony with some formless chaotic universe and just shut up!!!

Back to the main question. What you term as " the mess" and the argument that God knew what would happen and could have prevented it "pointless stuff." I am afraid, it misses a crucial fact. God is beyond and above even the language and the imagery we deploy to describe him. the words quoted connote negative judgments and can only make sense as we use them amongst us and fellow human beings. You cant use our earthly/human logic and consciousness to comprehend God. God is beyond this logic, is supreme, beyond any human logical comprehension. God is not even gendered as we regard him. This force is beyond our comprehension.

I like to understand God better as some thinker expressed it in this analogy of the bees at a hive and the bee-keeper.

The bees never know and they would never comprehend the thoughts, plans and presence of the bee-keeper. The bee-keeper may want to harvest some honey or transfer the hive to another location. The bees will have no idea. The bee-keeper has however, given them free will. They can fly to and fro whatever flower to get some nector for their own daily livelihood. But the bee-keeper will reap the honey and even kill some of the bees in the process. Of course the bees will try to resist by stopping the intruder! But they will be helpless once the beekeeper has made up his mind to get some honey or squash one to death. Infact they will not even know why some bees are killed because they are denied this consciousness of the bee-keeper. They could use their own bee logic and bee-consciousness to imagine the dealings of the beekeeper as most of our churches do. Of course it will not work simply because they are denied this supreme/hidden thinking of the bee-keeper. Some of the bees may even deny the existence of the bee-keeper but that alters nothing. Even if the bee-keeper does not not make sense, that is how it is. His sense is beyond the bees' comprehension. Some bees may question his senseless killing of the bees when he wants some honey but they will never understand why he needs it.

Try to comprehend God as the bee-keeper and Adam, Eve, all their descendants including you and me as the bees!! Try to comprehend god even in terms of evolution as that supreme consciousness beyond all consciousness as we use the word.
You will understand why even thinking about God, the universe, life and death, are all beyond our comprehension. God may simply find it a joke that you are asking this question. But again that is reason that God is decidedly beyond. There is no time/place limit, no temporal/ spatial limits. Not even the universe as we know it is the abode of this mysterious entity. But we know better from the laws of thermodynamics that things dont just happen. Some force does make them move. The universe could not just come into existence unless some force willed it. Problem is that force also could not exist unless another force beyond it willed it and it continues ad infinitum. That is the abode of God.
I hope this simplististic illustration helps you understand why/how God makes sense.
Thanks.

Do we not experiment in order to learn more? Did we not conduct experiments in Science class to test and validate theories. So the simple answer is that we will undergo every kind of experience in order to learn about ourselves, about life and how we should correctly interact with others.

Everything here on earth is a test and an opportunity for self-development. Everything is training and preparation.

The True Life in the Real World comes after graduation.

You are correct, God doesn't make sense. For many reasons even beyond those you point out.

I think the concept of God is simply an imagined figure used to take the place of our parents. We need God once we grow up and realize our parents are not "all powerful" as they seemed when we were children.

We are conditioned to expect a powerful figure to protect us and make us feel secure. When our parents become mere humans many, or most people fill the void with the God concept. A person who has true confidence in themselves, doesn't need a greater power to reassure them that they are "safe".

God, whether you believe in him or not, is a shared experience that brings people together for the best and the worst. You can pull out any ancient story and put it into today's context and you can easily show it as pointless and ridiculous. Try to find the story of humanity first in a myth, not God. Myths are blue prints to our ancient cultural development. If God does not make sense then humanity is not making sense either.

U know everything is predestined..God has already written everything..but on the other hand He has also given man his free will so that God could know whether the particular person moves on right path or wrong...same thing He did with Adam and Eve...He let them take their decision to see whether they fall in to temptation or not..but alas..they both fell in to temptation made by Satan..God put hurdles in the life of human beings to take their test..these floods, famine and starvation are all those kind of hurdles..people who face these troubles with patience and courage are liked by God..and those who fall in to wrong things are put in to hell by the God...our sense of honesty towards God leads us to acheive our heaven or hell...these are my personal comments...i have not written anything which i have read in my scriptures..i m sorry if i have written anything wrong but please do take it as my personal interpretation...thanx...!!

These stories are allegories that some ancient Jewish scholar wrote down to try to teach people right from wrong. The one thing that you need to understand is that God IS. Don't try to understand him. Just try to live in harmony with the universe.

God does not exist. I know it hurts to realize this, but in time you will get used to the idea of your mortality, and all of the things that go along with it. Also, you will have the privilege of seeing the world as it really is, which can also be hard, but if you are a lover of truth, there can be some pride in it.
