I am in Texas. first sight I thought it was black and smooth. After death, I see it is dark olive brown,slightly hairy texture,hard legs and fangs. Resembles false widow but not sure.

oh and it is about 1 1/2 inches long including legs. it's body is about dime size, not counting the head

Sorry the pictures are a bit fuzzy. From what I can tell and by your size description I think this is a variety of the Wolf Spider. Reasons for this is the large Palps (front arms), size 1 to 2 inches, dark (brown) and "fuzzy". I personally find this sight very good for helping to identify bugs of any sort. Feel free to brows through it.

Looks to me to be some variety of wolf spider. Hard to tell from photos but quite common and harmless even though they will bite if handled !
