I used to roam around all the places of India! Through out the nation comparatively for auto-drivers I can put 90-95% marks. Once, in Bombay after a long travel, when I happened to give 60 Rupees, for the auto meter which showed 56 Rupees, the auto driver immediately returned the balance 4 rupees! I told him just to keep it! But, showed his face uncomfortable and pressed the money forcibly in to my palm! There I could see 95% drivers are honest! Even at Hyderabad I saw the same good things with the auto drivers! They never demand for out-of-meter, and out-of-fair money! I felt proud about them!!
But, as a resident of Chennai, I feel bad about our Auto-drivers! Here may be 5-10% are good, and remaining 90-95% are not up to the mark!
NO AUTO DRIVER COMES FOR METER CHARGES, BUT DEMANDS UNFAIR, FAIR IN FLAT RATE! NO GOVT. SO FAR COULD CHANGE THEIR BEHAVIOURS! THEY UTTERLY FAILED WITH THESE "STRANGE PEOPLE" AND THEIR PECULIAR SELFISH PSYCHOLOGY!!
Will it be changed ever?

Their attitude will only change when the passengers consistently refuse to give in to their demands.

Temporarily they may appear change, but never in their life.

It is a deep rooted problem knowingly and willingly 'created' by the government bureaucrates, Traffic Police and the crooked politicians, reasons best known to them - only in Tamil Nadu and particularly Chennai. When they are so sure of power behind them, the auto-drivers are all the more are arrogant and keep unleashing the attrocities on the poor public.
It is a shame to call ourselves Tamilians or people from Tamil Nadu in front of the rest of the country men because no where in the whole country such a nasty and mean behaviour of the auto-drivers one will find. Otherwise do you think such a situation could be allowed to continue for ten long years putting the common public in nightmares everytime they were compelled to engage an auto?

My prediction: Poor public will further be helpless as the situation worsens. Well my friend, but remember whether it is ten years or twenty years, the volgano will certainly erupt to swallow all those culprits; it is the natural justice. That is the way many issues have been solved in the past.

So we have no other alternative other than wishing and praying such a natural justice to occur sooner than later.

IT DEPENDS UPON THE PEOPLE TO MAKE THE AUTO DRIVERS TO BEHAVE.
THE OPTIONS ARE:
1) TRY TO OWN A VEHICLE OF YOUR OWN.THEN YOU NEED NOT WASTE MONEY AND TIME WITH THESE AUTO PEOPLE OF CHENNAI.
2)START EARLY AND USE THE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM.
3) USE SHARE AUTO AT ONE - FIFTH OF AUTO FARE.
4)CLEARLY BARGAIN BEFORE YOU ENGAGE AND BOARD AN AUTO.

GENERALLY AUTO FARE IS 10 TIMES COSTLIER THAN BUS FARE.WHY YOU GO FOR AN AUTO,PAYING TEN TIMES MORE? FOR COMFORT AND SPEED.
IF YOU ARE ENGAGING AN AUTO ,YOU ARE READY TO PAY TEN TIMES THE BUS FARE.WHY NOT PAY ANOTHER 10% AS PENALTY FOR NOT USING THE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM?
YOU AND ME IF WE DECIDE TO USE AN AUTO,IT MEANS WE ARE BETTER OFF AND CAN OFFORD TO GO BY AUTO.
THEN WHY THE HEART BURN?
REDUCE THEFREQUENCY OF USING AUTO AND THEY WILL LEARN TO BEHAVE.

I UNDERSTAND TAMIL NADU GOVERNMENTHAS INCREASED THE AUTO FARE, CENTRE HAS REDUCED PETROL PRICE AND THE AUTO DRIVERS WILL BEHAVE FROM NOW ONWARDS.
