If you are sure you have power to the monitor, I would check the connection of the monitor to the video port on your tower. If that doesn't do it, check if your computer is bad by moving it next to your roomate's computer, and use their monitor. If the monitor works, you know your monitor is bad, and you just need a new Monitor. If that does work, move your monitor to your friend's computer, and check that. That way you eliminate the unknowns. Good luck!

This is how to troubleshoot a monitor:
1) check all cords and cables and make sure they are all plugged in and tight. Their should be one power cord and one computer monitor cord.
2) While the computer is off the monitor shoudl have a light on near the power button. When the computer is off, it is normally yellow and when the computer is on it is normally green. If neither the yellow nor the green light is on, then recheck the computer monitor cable and power cord.
3) If you see the pre operating system information such as bios login ect go into the bios and reset the defaults. If entering into safe mode is an option (which it is in any windows nt based OS)then enter into safe mode and check the drivers.
4) While in safe mode go to start-settings -control panel-monitors and check the information on your monitor. Make sure the drivers are their and not conflicting with any other hardware.
5) If all this fails you need a new monitor.

Bottom line, you need a new monitor. The problem is the on and off switch, the connections have lifted off the circuit board due to heat naturally generated by the monitor. You could take it to a repair shop, but it might be just as cheap to either buy a used one, or new monitor. Chow

I agree with you get a new one

HOWEVER

Cathode Ray Tube (BIG BOX)
Liquid Crystal Display (Flat Screen)??

Both have power inputs that may become fried over time

Power outages??

Old Buttons on the face of the monitor??

Bad Hookups on the Back of the Video Card??

sounds like its time for a new monitor
just to make sure, borrow one and try it with your computer to make sure its not a problem with the computer
if the borrowed monitor works fine then replace the monitor

seems to me like your monitor is dying a slow painful death. Put it out of its misery and by yourself another one.
