I just try to figure it out on my own...mostly trial and error. I set up my Mac without looking at the directions, and I teach myself how to use software in the same way. I'll only look at the directions if I've been doing trial and error for a while and haven't figured it out...but that's rare.

I usually start with the directions then think I've got it figured out only to realize I don't and then go back to the directions.

I read the directions. Usually a couple of times. Then I read them again for typos.

Oh my gosh - read the directions. I had a b-day party for my 3yo recently. Her "helpful" aunts & uncles decided to put together a play kitchen for my daughter w/o directions. They did it totally backwards. There was stuff that had to be screwed together before other stuff was snapped together. They snapped things together (that didn't come apart) so we couldn't screw the large pieces together b/c of that! Now the kitchen falls apart when you move it! AUGH!
