In chapter 27 I don't understand the text where it says he has a shotgun in his lap. It may mean Bob Ewell shot him, but I'm not sure.

If I recall .. it was refering to the habit or necessity of the local judges in such areas to be prepared to protect themselves or their associates against others.

Nothing says "Respect me" like a loaded shotgun.

What decision was made in the court?? would some of the locals have been enraged?? Would His life have been in danger?? Now why do you think He had a loaded shot gun in His lap?
