18 minimum to be allowed, 21 to be smart enough to make the right choice. Yes they really hurt, and make sure you don't have to do anything really physical for the next 4-5 days, I did and I bruised mine, so it hurt for 3 weeks, which it shouldn't. Best tip, bathe in boiled water with 1tbs per cup of sea salt twice daily, spray with anitseptic spray supplied by peirce once daily, and KEEP IT DRY!! The other thing, if you can get solid gold into it, as soon as you are allowed by peircer, it will heal more quickly and feel better. The surgical steel, and any cheap metal, is more unstable than gold and sheds sediment into the hole, causing irritation. If you get infected, go to the doctor quickly.

16-18 and within a couple years you'll decide you want to be taken seriously and decide to take it out. You will then have a scar that will stay with you for life.
It hurts at first and will sting at times during the first month while healing. Plus you won't be used to having it there and certain clothes rub against it and it can hurt from that too (until it heals).
It used to be hot to peirce your navel, now everyone does it and it's taken away the thrill...really.
I've had mine peirced and after I grew out of the poser phase I took it out.

i say make them wait til they are 18 and if they still really want it by then...go ahead. and yes it hurts. the actual piercing does NOT hurt at all....i barely felt anything more than pressure (both times i got it pierced) but afterwards it hurt. jeans touching it hurts. sleeping on it. cleaning it. sitting down and then standing up hurts. its pretty uncomfortable. but if you want it, i guess its worth the pay off. (i have gotten it pierced twice and took it out again for good like 3 yrs ago---its just boring when everyone else has one)

i got mine done at 13. i thought that getting my cartlidge on my ear hurt more than my belly button piercing. it depends how good you are with pain i guess. if you think that certain things hurt really easily then yes, it will most likely hurt. it hurts for some and not for others. GOOD LUCK THOUGH!!! i hope you get it.... because you'll love it.

When they are legally allowed to get one by themself. In my state that is either 18 or 21 I am not sure. I think it is 21. And yes they hurt ---- you are putting a hole in your flesh --- of course it hurts.

18, it's one of the more sexual piercings.
Yes it hurts, though not too bad, especially if you've had experience with a tattoo, eyebrow, or nose piercing. If you decide to get one, make sure they use a needle.
