Ok, first of all, it's very late here, and I should really be in bed, but I can't sleep. You see, I'm a writer of sorts, but I've been in a writer's block for quite some time now, and I'm unable to think of new ideas. I need an idea for a short story. And please, be serious. This is for a grade...

First of, if you're tired, writing is made difficult because your brain has shut down idea-wise. In short, you are on auto-pilot.
I suggest writing something outside of your comfort zone. Something different, but interesting. Write a love story between two boys. Both of them are stuck in a wrecked house after a storm has destroyed their bleak suburbian neighborhood. No one is around, and as they lie on their death bed, they reveal their secrets, hopes, and dreams to one another.

You must be tied. Read Your own question. It could be the basis of a very nice little short story about how an aspiring young author/writer has a mental block, what it feels like, the frustration it causes her, how she pleads for assistance and how She finally, in a moment of insight starts to write about this night when She could not get to sleep because She had no ideas about a story.
Post Me a copy when You are Finished. Now go to sleep.

How about a young student writer who normally is very prolific suddenly encounters writer's block when a teacher gives her a writing assignment that will make or break her grade. She locks herself in her room, staring at the walls hoping to find inspiration. But the only thing she can think about is that this teacher must have it out for her, and she finally snaps and decided this teacher is the cause for the writer's block, and the only way to free herself is to eliminate the teacher.
It could be an allegory about how societal pressures stifle the human soul's creativity. (Though I would run the idea pass the teacher first so she/he doesn't think you are actually planning to kill her!)

Topics:
The burning of books in WWII, and the ban of works of art and its effect on free-thinking.
The morals of a debauched person and an antithesis of their perspective mirrored in a close companion or relative.
Choose someone you know that you completely disagree with and write a defense of their perspective. Give them a reason to believe what they do.
Describe a song or work of art to someone from the future that will have no understanding of it. Don't just describe in dialogue: make the description a poem or short story.
My Composition teacher in high school was always pulling our inspiration from things that were "close to home" so to speak. I really love music and art. I try to marry these two interests when I'm writing and I really love the result. I choose a song and work of art that don't seem related and try to work within their styles.
Really, I would suggest that you look for inspiration where you find pleasure in your daily life and then try looking at it from an archetypal angle. (I love archetypes.) And go back to what first influenced you to write. Think of the authors that influenced you. Maybe start with a line of their thoughts and work forward to your own. When you feel put down, put it on paper. Start with a line. End with a vignette.
I'm sure you'll make it...and I wish you luck. Writer's block may very well be the Devil himself. Just have fun.

i used this one a while ago.. but feel free.
the setting is a space center... excitement fills the air upon the discovery of intelligent life upon a relatively nearby planet...
at the end of the story, the reader realizes that the story takes place on a different planet, and the planet they have just discovered is earth...
it worked for a short story, but i don't know what you need to do. good luck!

i write poetry.....and i am very realistic and imaginative at the same time....for story writing i think u should start with a person's imaginative world in which he found him self as a hero but when he came out from this open i dream every where he found the harsh realities of life and try hard to cope with them put some beautiful colorful imagination as contrast with the daily hard working routine of this guy ...and sooo onn ..if u prefer do send me ur story..

What about writing as if you were something other than human? For instance you could talk to your audience as if you were a cat, bird or a racoon etc... But in order to do this you would have to study its life style and challenges. Reel in your readers like cinematographer and create interest and empathy.
