It is called "What have you done for me lately?" and typical of ALL sports' fans. How many "long time" Dallas Cowboys' fans were there when they won 3 Super Bowls in 4 years but yet good luck finding anyone who was a fan when they were 1-15. Ask those "long time" fans to name anyone on the 1-15 team BESIDES Troy Aikman and no chance in "heck" they could but yet they will tell you how they are/were "long time" fans. As for the Sabres' bandwagon fans - ask them to name ANYONE on the "French Connection" line and 4 hours later when they STILL haven't named anyone you know how much of a fan they are - my guess is some might say "Pat LaFontaine" or "Alexander Mogilny". Just accept it for what it is and move on and know that when the team isn;t winning as much there will be PLENTY of "seats" on the "Bandwagon"

Here's an answer from Sharks country. This year and last, the Sabres have had the most exciting team in the league. Maybe not the best, but the most fun to watch. That's the opinion of many hockey writers and "objective" hockey fans. As has been mentioned, any team's fans will toot their horn when the team is doing well (They can't very well do it when the team is a dog).
By virtue of its weather and location, Buffalo is an extension of Canada and Canadian hockey madness. People in Buffalo could watch "Hockey Night in Canada" as well as Sabres games. Leafs, Habs, Flames, and Oilers fans - and cities - are crazy for their teams, too (less so, I think, Sens and Canucks).
When you live in a city which doesn't have a lot else going for it except for sports, that's where people's energy will go. Though they're playing well, Anaheim, Dallas, and Nashville have trouble filling their arenas.
I've been watching hockey for a long time (since before there were Sabres!) and this is an exciting team. (Yeah, I could name several from 15 years ago, but why bother?)

Well y'all may not care, but what I think is this thread, and the many just like it are retarded. I am a "real" Sabres fan, at least thats what you have to believe because you dont know me and I said it on the Internet so you have to believe me. You see where I'm going with this? Now I'm not gonna throw all the ridiculous stats I could possibly GOOGLE and copy & paste at you, like I believe 90% of the deuche bags on these threads do. I'm just gonna say, I love the Sabres, always have, always will. And to anyone who says we're screwed since we lost Max, and a few others for a few weeks, your a nutbag, cause Andrew Peters is allready steppen up to the plate, he's gonna be the next big Buffalo star. That part was a joke.
Buffalo in '07....Believe.

How about the captain from little more than fifteen years ago that you uberfans seem not to remember? Mike Foligno.
And, yes, you did spell Sabres wrong.
I'm sick of the arrogant elitism of so many of you. You were a new fan at one point, too. I don't care if someone starts watching hockey at four or forty. If someone wants to start watching hockey and learn about the game you should welcome them. Hockey is at its highest popularity in Western New York right now for good reason. That doesn't happen without the new fans that you despise.
Hockey is maybe at its lowest popularity ever in this country. It desperately needs more and more new fans. If people like you had your way the hockey population would shrink and the game would die. But that would be okay because you'd be better than everyone else and I'm sure you wouldn't be shy about telling people that constantly.
So either welcome the bandwagon fans, plan for an adult life without hockey, or start planning your move to Canada. Because those right there are your three options.

i agree that there are alot of bandwagoners but wut about the ppl who werent around (i mean not born then) for the french connection and thru the 90's. Im only 19 but i know who the french connection was and i know how big that was. I have been a sabres fan since i was about 8. I have a little brother who is 9...just because he doesnt know all the players from the 90's doesnt make him a bandwagoner either

Y'all forgot Craig Ramsey, Rick Vaive and his neck brace, Norm Lacombe and Yuri Khmylev.
I'm not from Buff, don't particularly care for the sabres (outside of Mr. Chris "don't call be Ted" Drury) and generally believe Buffalo is a nice place to leave. with that said, their fans are straight up hardcore.
Their building's always full, they take their licks in stride and always come back for more. Flyers pounded us silly? okay. Foot in the crease? No problem. Players drop like flies to injury? "We'll win with Jillson!". Blind faith, undying optimism or however else you choose to describe it. These fans do NOT abandon their squad.
so give these fans a break. Between the weather, The chokin' Bills and the memory of Rob Ray getting thumped by half the league, Sabre fans have earned the right to revel in the season that is...until the inevitable heartbreak comes, of course.

Dave Hannan.
Lalalalalalalalafontaine
Brad May (Mayday)
That's just off of the top of my head...and I'm a Devils fan for the record. But I think most sabres fans will get those just because they have famous overtime gamewinners. And every team has bandwagoners, but Buffalo fans are usually pretty hardcore. They are practically an extention of Canada.

regarding the french connection line...
Glibert Perreault (Sabres first draft pick ever, 1st overall, 1970), Richard "Rick" Martin (drafted 5th overall in 1971), and acquired Renee Robert in a trade from pittsburgh towards the deadline in
1971.
15 years ago... Grant fuhr was acquired from toronto in 93 towards the deadline, but we got mogilny to hit his best with patty that year, and we also got the dominator in 92-93.
we drafted tom barrasso straight outta high school back in the 80's, but traded him in 88 or 89 i think...
and 3 years ago...
andrew peters
marty biron
jay mckee
mika nornen
james patrick
max afinogenov
and i think we swung in briere about that time too... just to name a few...
and that's just off the top o my head.

this is a bad question because nobody needs to worry or should care about the buffalo sabres. they are worthless and even though they have the best record in the league they play out of the city of losers. buffalo doesn't know how to win and anyone that thinks or says that place is an extension of canada needs to be seriously reprimanded or at least shown canada because there never was or will be an equally ugly and dirty city here

ummmmm... you spelled "sabres" wrong.. and i cant speak for the rest of the country but here in lil 'ol b-lo, there's plenty of ppl who could name the roster, trades, hits, and points for any given season. right now, they're the best team in hockey (record-wise) and ppl will always line up for the alpha dog. like when you see ppl wearing an allen iverson jersey or colts hat, and they couldnt really give a **** about the game itself... same thing. who cares.
