Especially when there is still so much that has not been chartered yet? Mythological creatures do have basis in reality, when there are folks around the globe that are unrelated who claim to see similar things that they couldn't find out about from someone 20,000 miles away before modern technology as we know it even existed.

Society thrives on order and security. People see the 'unknown' as something to fear, therefore they tell themselves that they know everything about the world.

In reality, we know nothing. The limited imaginations of most people lead them to believe that the universe was created for OUR galaxy to be in, our galaxy was created for OUR solar system to be in, our solar system was created for our planet to be in, and our planet was created for us to live on.

Pretty self-involved, huh?

This is so very true. Many people do seem to think that they know everything about the world, about the universe. I myself do fear the unknown, but i do not claim to know all there is about the world. I believe that there is more that we can learn and do than can be learned and done in a lifetime. Most people can't see past their own noses. To them their world is tiny and closed, when in actuality there is more space than matter in this world. I fear the unknown because I know there is more there than my physical eyes can see I'm just afraid of what I'll see but at the same time I don't deny that it's there.

It is a fact of modern man that we "feel" we are in control of our own lives. In order to maintain that illusion we must demystify any superstitions and myths that surround our lives. Old wives tale, folk lore, and myths are what were created in old times to explain away things that we couldn't explain. Then there is the fact of numerous accounts of the same "myth" strecthing from one part of the world to the other without means of communication. This can be explained by the super continent theory.

People obviously view us as overly glorified and wise. I guess that everyone needs to believe that someone has all the answers.

Limited imagination leads many to believe that they already know all there is to know.
But you are so right. There is more that we don't know than what we do know.
